the 5mx uses EPOC ER5 whereas the 5 uses ER3. Some applications will work on either, but many are specific to one version or the other.

The only way you'll find out which apps work and which don't is by giving it a go. Obviously back up both machines first - you won't damage any data, but it doesn't hurt to cover yourself.

Do all the versions in ER3 work on the ER5? I mean on many download pages they only often have 'series 5' specified not ER3 or 5. Thanks Nigel ( will try it out later)

Do all the versions in ER3 work on the ER5? Generally, but there are different versions of Opera for ER3 and ER5, you must be very careful not to get any Message Suite 1.52 files from a Series 5 "classic" into a 5mx, Web 2.0 is for the 5mx but not the S5 etc.

As long as you don't install any "machine specific" files in the CF disk, you should be safe enough. Personally, I have never used the same CF disk in both machines, I have always installed the application again in the second machine with its own CF disk.

good question - I'm not really sure. My gut feeling tells me that *most* will work, but I'm sure there are APIs that have been implemented slightly differently on ER5, so any apps that use these functions might not work.

I am hypothesising madly here - the only real way to know will be to try the apps on your CF card. Post and let us all know eh?

Nigel

I would definitely take Mike's advice and treat your S5 to a CF of its own.

I have interchanged disks in the past, but it can get messy and flaky after a while. Since CFs are so reasonable in price I think it's worth the investment.

Btw, Nigel, how many Psions have you got now - you collecting them? You were just talking about a 3a and a 3c last week IIRC! ;)
