For members wishing to download a copy of the ER5 "Emulator" to run in the PC, this is included in the SDKs (Software Development Kits) located at:
www.psionteklogix.com/teknet/pdk/netpad-pdk/epoc_downloads.htm (http://www.psionteklogix.com/teknet/pdk/netpad-pdk/epoc_downloads.htm)

Mike
I chased the link to the Psion techlogix page, but am not sure which is the Emulator. There seem to be about 4 possibilities. Can you help? Sorry if the answer is obvious to you.

The Java SDK is the smallest download though I must admit I cannot access the file - I just get page not found errors. This may be because I haven't registered as I know that the files are still there
See if you have any more success.

You need to click on the link at the top (or near the top) of the page to go to the latest versions. The th elinks work.
Thanks for your help, as ever.

You need to click on the link at the top (or near the top) of the page to go to the latest versions. The th elinks work. Now that really is a bit obscure but, as you say, it then finds the file
I have updated my original post to take account of this additional step. Thanks for the info.

I downloaded the java sdk emulator version, since it is the smallest one.
will I be able to run apps which are based on OPL then?

will I be able to run apps which are based on OPL then?I don't have any knowledge of programming to be able to answer that. It is probably a matter of trying them to see, unless someone can give you a definite answer.

I downloaded Symbian OS V5 SDK for Java but was unable to install it. The system says that the files are corrupted or missing. Then I downloaded the C++ version and read the readme file. This program does not seem to work for versions of Windows after Windows 98 and I have Windows XP.
Does anyone know?

Nicole,
I have the Java SDK installed in Windows XP. Let me know if you want a copy by email of the file which I have - the .ZIP archive is about 16.5 Megabytes.

Thank you, Mike for offering. I re-downloaded it and was then able to install it. I tried it and it works great. I can now read all my Psion dedicated files on my laptop, especially the 10 year agenda files and 800 contacts that I had not transferred in my new handheld.

Anyone looking at the emulator versions available for download from Teklogix's Teknet website may be initially confused (like me!) by an apparently highly significant change in the C++ SDK, which has grown in size from 57.3Mb to a whopping 94Mb (both compressed). Sadly, this isn't a reflection of increased functionality, much less the inclusion of a WinCE EPOC ER5/Symbian7 emulator for the netBook Pro! ;) ...in fact, I downloaded this current version and compared it with the one downloaded a year ago and the size increase is almost entirely accounted for by the inclusion of the Gnu C++ compiler within the same zip archive (it is still available as a separate 37Mb download). Apart from this, the only differences (verified using WinDiff) are a slightly updated ReadMe and a new 'vc6.bat' file.
More fundamentally (and probably stupidly!), though, I'm not clear why the different SDKs have to be installed separately, in order to have full SDK functionality. Clearly if one wants to just have an emulator to view Psion files (e.g. one's PsiWin backup folder - as Diem says, a very cool way to have an automatically synchronised Psion and PC emulator!), then one only need install a single SDK (logically, the smallest, i.e. the Java SDK). However, why does one have to have separate SDKs to access the OPL, C++ & Java development tools; why couldn't PT have made them available as optional plug-ins for the one emulator?... only wondering because it would save having to install multiple SDKs, and configuring each with D & E drives pointing to the same folders on the PC (not yet sure whether it's wise/workable to use a common C drive). Any info appreciated.

Hi Mike, two questions, is this the mythical WINS Emulator and, how big is it?
I need to maintain my 5mx data file on both the PC running XP and the 5mx of course.
I could do that with the Psion 3c and the PsiWin1
Thanks
Regards
Chris

I wasn't aware it was "mythical" :-)
The OPL version is (or was) about 27Mb when I downloaded it years ago. Should take about 2 hours to download, using a 56K modem.

'Mythical' because, and it is clear you have forgotten, at no point and in no place is the term WINS used on the Psionteklogix site.
Everyone refers to it at WINS except the source!
The java file contains four files containing the letters WINS and that is out of fifteen hundred files!
Wins.pm
Winsl.ico
Winss.ico
Winsv.ico
But then, and it really worries me, I have downloaded the Java SDK and perhaps this isn't WINS.
Until I have it working, it must remain 'mythical' :-)

My workplace does not allow me to install additional software on the PC. Is it possible to run a EPOC emulator entirely off a USB flash drive?

I have downloaded bothe the java and cpp zip files and have not been able to install them. One issue that comes up in both cases is that when I try to do the checkout and then install I run up against the 500 icon limit.
I'd appreciate some guidance on how to proceed or if it is impossible to set up the emulator on a PC running WIN XP pro.
Also confused about which one needs to be installed to run Epoc programs on a PC
Thanks

Dear All
i'm making an application that requires a PDA to communicate with a server using WiFi, but I don't have a device. is there any emulator that can use the desktop's wireless adaptor as if it is the PDA's?!

I have the emulator running on my laptop, I use it at work and it is useful for me to keep open but after a short period it becomes minimised and sends itself to my taskbar at the bottom. Is there a setting I can change to make it stay open as a window all the time?
Also is it possible to save the settings so that the next time it is opened up it retains the same settings?
cshandley

Minimising is equivalent to the Psion switching-off, so I guess that you need to change the auto-switch-off time (or disable it altogether) from the Control Panel.

Is there a way to keep the settings so the next time you open up the emulator you don't have to put them all in again?

Yes, you can create (or use an existing) start-up macro for Macro5, with the following line of code:
SetAutoSwitchOffBehavior:(&0)
You may need to have this line at the top of your macro:
INCLUDE "system.oxh"

A strange error has started appearing when I run the emulator. This is the one as included in the ER5 OPL SDK. When I try to run one of the standard applications (Word, Program, etc.) I got the dialog box "Not found". If I try and click on a document for one of these, I get "Cannot find program" as an error at the top right. I can, however, run a translated OPL program or application.
The solution is random. Today, in the time it took me to find a place to post this, time was simply the answer: when I tried again to see what the precise error message was, Word decided this time to load.
I run the emulator on a Linux box, under Wine. I have done this successfully for a number of years, and Wine is having no problems with other Windows software.
Does anyone know what could be the cause of this newly-appearing problem?

It's good to use the SysBack application for this.
Also you can easily do an OPL script "RunMyApps" which starts up he applications and documents you want.
INCLUDE "System.oxh"
INCLUDE "SysRam1.oxh"
INCLUDE "SystInfo.oxh"
INCLUDE "Const.oph"
INCLUDE "Date.oxh"
CONST KApplicationName$="RunMyApps"
CONST KApplicationUid&=&01234567 REM // chose yourself
CONST KPauseBetweenRunApps%=20
APP RunMyApps,KApplicationUid&
CAPTION KApplicationName$,KLangEnglish%
ENDA
PROC main:
LOCAL k&
REM // settings
SetAutoSwitchOffBehavior:(&0)
LcSetClockFormat&:(&1) REM // &1 = digital, &0 = analogue
REM // open apps & documents
k&=RunApp&:("Data","C:\Memo","",0)
PAUSE KPauseBetweenRunApps%
k&=RunApp&:("Opl","","RC:\System\Apps\Macro5\Macro5.app",3)
PAUSE KPauseBetweenRunApps%
k&=RunApp&:("Data","C:\MartinAddressBook","",0)
PAUSE KPauseBetweenRunApps%
k&=RunApp&:("Opl","","RC:\System\Apps\dpCalc\dpCalc.app",2)
PAUSE KPauseBetweenRunApps%
k&=RunApp&:("Timew","","",3)
PAUSE KPauseBetweenRunApps%

REM // cleanup

Hi all,
I know this forum is for Amiga people, but I am trying to find out what you guys think is the best Amiga spectrum emulator - I currently have an A1200 040 Blizzard PPC and I am trying to find out which would run best on this hardware.
Given that I used a Spectrum before an Amiga, it would be very interesting to see if they have come on since I last used ZXAM way back in 97
Cheers guys.
