Does anyone know which part of the OS deals with the link to the Desktop? I'm still trying to find ways to do this over ethernet (preferably WiFi) and the big stumbling block is the fact that the desktop link only has options for serial or IR.
I'm wondering if there is someway of 'hacking' it to add extra options such as an ethernet option??
(I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this but couldn't think of a better one - moderators feel free to move it!)

The "Link" enables/disables a serial connection, either directly via the cable or emulated via IrCOMM protocol using Infrared. The reason it needs to be disabled is to free up the port for use by other applications - Comms and internet dialup.
Why would you want to enable/disable an ethernet connection?
I'm not being critical, I'm just not following the logic :)

System Menu-Tools-Link to Desktop gives three options (Off, Cable, Infrared).
I was wondering if something could be done to the OS (like modifying or adding a file) to make it say (Off, Cable, Infrared, Ethernet).
I don't want to disable ethernet, just get the OS to look at the ethernet port for a PsiWin connection instead of serial or IR.
This way, we may be able to get a wireless link to PsiWin. From the investigations I've done so far, I'm sure it would be restricted to 115Kb (same as serial) as the PC based "virtual serial ports over IP" software I've looked at always emulate upto a max of 115Kb. Still a wireless link at that speed might be more useful to some people than a wired link at that speed.
Hope this makes sense :)

I guess that is what I am asking. Can this be done? I would say not but then there people out there doing mighty strange things with their Psions... :D

You won't be able to get PsiWin working over an ethernet connection but there is another way:-
You run an FTP server on your PC and use nFTP on the Psion to upload/download files.
I have found that the PC FTP Server GuildFTPd works very well and offers good security :-
http://www.guildftpd.com
(You can also use an FTP client on the PC and run FTP server on the Psion, see :-

Ditto that with Cesar FTP (also freeware).
It's quite cool to see your nB transferring 100K files in a couple of seconds - even more so to know that it's wireless with a PC sitting upstairs somewhere!
And since EpocSync has an FTP option, you can effectively backup your machine over WiFi pretty quickly... :)
Cheers,

Have you actually managed to get EpocSync to work with Cesar FTP ? - I have tried numerous PC FTP servers and EpocSync doesn't want to play with any of them.

I've been using Pablo's FTP Server v1.56 with EpocSync without any problems.

Must admit that I haven't gotten around to trying it yet Kevin... :o
I will.
