Hi Guys

I am new to all this wireless stuff. Can I get my Zire 71 to talk to a bluetooth mobile phone? I had a look at the Palm bluetooth SD card but the Zire 71 is not listed as a compatible handheld.

Many thanks for your help

Many Thanks.

What a pitty! So what are the wireless options for the Zire 71? Can I get the thing to talk to a mobile phone in my pocket?

Many thanks for your help.

I use the 71 with my Motorola cell. It works fine with the exception of the cable connector to the 71. It falls out. . . won't secure itself.

I use Blazer browser and VersaMail for my email. It checks three pop3 accounts.

I only use it, this way, on the road. And when on the road I really only care about email. Browsing seems a little silly.

Hi Guys

Another thing. When I go into Prefs -> Connection, I have lots of "BT to ..." entries in the list. I assume BT stands for Bluetooth. There is even an entry "BT to Nokia 7110" which is stupid as the Nokia 7110 (or mine anyway) does not support Bluetooth!

I also heard that there will soon be a Wi-Fi card for the Zire 71. Will this allow me to connect to a mobile phone?

Does anybody have any experience of going wireless with a Zire 71?

Many thanks for your help.

Hi Darryl

Thanks for your post. Where did you get your cable? Would they have one for a Nokia 7110?

Patrick,

The cable was available, online, from the palmstore. I've seen then on eBay also.

Re: Nokia. They have a list of compatible phones, too. I would guess most of the newer phones will work fine.

I have been able to get my 71 to connect to the internet
via the ir with my Nokia 6590i. Haven't been able to do
anything with it, but can get it to connect. Had Yahoo
messenger for Palm, but it hangs when loading friend list.
Have the Blazer browser somewhere on one of my Clie
install disks, just haven't gotten around to digging it out yet.
Anyone have any other suggestions?

I find IR a little akward to use as both devices have to remain in line-of-sight. Where can I get the Blazer browser and how can I set it up to connect to mu ISP?

You have three options in this case.

1. Use Bluetooth. It is rumored that Palm is making a new Bluetooth Secure Digital card that will work with Palm OS 5 devices.

2. Use infrared. Although this can be a hassle, it will still work.

3. Connect your Zire 71 to your phone with a cable. You can find some at this site.

Hi

Thanks for your post. I checked-out the site you mentionned for a cable to a Nokia 7110. They only sell one from "Palm M125,M130,M500,M505,M515,i705". Am I right in thinking that these machines use the same connector (Palm Universal Connector) as the Zire 71? I've also looked at a picture of the cable and there is a fatter section in the middle. I suspect that there are some electronics in this fatter bit. Maybe there is also a driver for OS4.x that will not work with the Zire 71....

This new bluetooth card doesn't work with the Z-71??? Goddamn.

Anyone know where I can find out whether I can connect my Nokia 3510i to my Zire?

The drivers in the current Palm Bluetooth card are for OS 4.x and will therefore not work with the Zire 71.

There is, however, a rumour that Palm is working on a Bluetooth card for OS5 but this hasn't been confirmed or denied by the company. See http://www.brighthand.com/article/RumorMill_Palm_Developing_Bluetooth_Card .

As for cables, you can have a look at http://www.thesupplynet.com .

Good luck and let us know if you find a cable to your Nokia; I am looking for one to my Nokia 7110 but haven't been successful so far.
