Just got an e740 and i am having difficulty connecting to the Internet via my Linksys WAP. My problem is almost identical to one that was described by user Spankstinator on August 15 :
1. Linksys DHCP is on
2. Linksys WEP is off
3. e740 Wireless Lan Utility indicates good signal strength and appropriate IP address, SSID, etc.
4. For the Connections, I tried pretty much all combinations of Work and Internet. I tried creating a new connection. The heart of the problem seems to be there : wheter the settings are Internet or Work, if a click on Modify..., there is nothing under the modem tab, but I'm not trying to connect via a modem but via the built-in wireless card of the e740 through the linksys router. There doesn't seem to be anywhere I can configure a connection without any dialing process, in order to share my broadband connection through the router (my laptop connects just fine to my network and the Internet with its wireless network card).
bottom = always default back to Work no matter how hard I try to set it to Internet.
5. PDA Network adapter is set to "Use server assigned IP address". However, in the "name servers" tab, none of the addresses for DNS etc. are populated. This parallels my desktops windows settings - when DHCP is used the server assigns these addresses and you don't see them populated. I just wanted to note this in case someone with a good connection sees the fields populated in their pda.
6. PDA power saver is off
7. Can't ping the pda from a desktop. Can ping the router and the other desktop on the network.
8. Soft resets do not seem to help.
9. Active Sync works with the PDA on the cradle
10. Any way I can determine the version of the Linksys Router/WLAN Firmware to see if it's the latest? I'm a bit reluctant to upgrade the firmware, thereby erasing my settings, in case the network would stop working altogether, so I'd like to make sure it's necessary.
Do I need to create a new connection on the e740 and how?
UPDATE : I just upgraded the firmware on the router and everything works fine now, web browsing and wireless sync as well.
