Hi,
Sorry,
but you can't connect a 5MX to a LAN. CF NICs will not work. You can connect a Netbook (same Operating System but larger and more expensive than the 5MX and with a colour screen).
The 5MX can connect to a PC with the serial cable or even infra-red and the PSiWin software that comes with the Psion. This is not joining a network as such though.
Sorry it's not the answer you wished for!
Stop the press PlutoPants - there is a way!
A couple of companys sell IrLAN adapters that the Series 5 can talk to. There are full details in the networking section of my FAQ, URL below.

Hi there
Had a look on the link you mentioned, please forgive my ignorance, but what on earth is a ppp connection.
I have also been trying to trace a serial to ethernet converter, as advised by a member on one of the psion bb's (apparently they were used to link a serial printer to a network) what are your views on this method.

but what on earth is a ppp connection Point to Point Protocol is the method used to establish an internet connection. If you have a look at Dial Up Networking in the PC, you will see it uses:
"PPP:Windows 95/98/NT4/2000, Internet"
(but the exact description will vary depending on the Windows version).

Thanks Diem, you learn something new every day! (Well, I do anyway!):D
BTW: Diem's FAQ site was one of the best sources of information I found which inspired me not to give up on linking my netbook to WiFi! I recommend anyone wondering about our little handheld treasures to check it out - the link is under signoff Diem's name above. So, seriously, thanks for your efforts Diem.
Now, is anyone out there able to confirm how to get a ppp connection working via IR to a LAN on a 5MX?
