770 and GPS compatibility questions

Hi all, I'm a newbe to this group. I bought a 770 off Ebay with the intent of using it with my Garmin GPS V in my car for navigation assistance.

Does anyone have experience of advice as to compatibe mapping software that would track my location and maybe even alert me of turns?
