Just received my HP2210 - great device!
I'm curious if someone knows what it is going on with the memory. Build in are 64M, but available only 57M. What is the remaining memory doing? Just having a good time and eating power? Can this memory be released for usage?

I can't recall the name of the technology used but the OS files in rom are transferred to RAM to increase system performance. Something like NANRAM I think the name was.

ROM is non battery backed as it retains the data without, the problem is that it can only be written to several 1000 times. So, when ever the PDA is rebooted (flat battery etc.) ROM is copied into RAM, this is able to be written to millions of times as you use the PDA. This is where your missing memory has gone. Nearly all processor baced bits of kit use this principal ;) hope that helps

Hi there,
I got the HP2210 also last week.
I put in all my personal info and TomTom Benelux.
I got stuck, removed the battery and lost all software ???
Is'nt this protected in someway ?
What must i do if i need to change the battery in the future ?
I know now that there is a reset hole at the bottom.
NB: I downloaded an illegal version of TomTom France, but the HP doesn't see this even if I change maps ?
Any ideas ?
See yah

There is an internal backup battery that should hold power long enough for you to change the battery. If you lose everything even if you just take the battery out for a few seconds, then the unit might be defective.
When you do a soft reset (the button you found) you won't lose data.
And do use the backup program included. It stores a copy of your most precious data to a flash memory that holds it, no matter how long you go without power.
You can also make the iPAQ backup everything to your PC on every sync. Look in the Activesync settings on the PC.
