It seems that alot of text, DOCS2GO, AvantGo... clip the right side of the viewing area and the Silk screen is fixed open. Anyone have a workaround to get the silk screen to retract?

What you are asking has been discussed in other areas of the forum. It is basically the question 'what programs work full screen'?
The original Palm PDA and most of them on the market still display on a square screen, either 160x160 or 320x320. When a PDA is created that is a rectangle, either Portrait or Landscape, the program has to be recoded to recognize the method of displaying the information on the entire screen. The developers have to purchase kits from the manufacturers that show them how to rewrite their programs to display on the Sony 480x320 screen, or the Garmin 320x480 screen. Neither of these companies follow standard Palm rules for display. They wrote their own rules, and the developers now have to go back and overhaul their programs to fill the whole screen. When they don't do that, the Sony fills in the blank space with the Grafitti window.
Mostly it's a waiting game to see whether your favorite program gets released in a version that can fill the screen. Some programs never will, as the programmer who wrote it never sells enough copies to warrant the effort, or he/she just doesn't/can't do it.
