Tried it and it does work on my netBook.
Still unsure about a suitable compression program for AVI files on a PC. Used VirtualDub which allows you to take out a section of a movie file.
Only had a brief play with it. Need to experiment to find the best settings. Not sure the sound, which on the example used, seems to be poor.
The movie seems to play in blocks - play, pause, play. Only once did it play my example as a continuous movie, which I have failed to repeat.

I played it on my Netbook, and although playback was quite fast once it started (and indeed didn't use much memory), the actual visual quality was appalling (looked like it used 16 colours dithered!).
Also, it crashed VERY badly (if you clicked on anything!), such that the Java tasks never quit, but still ate memory & CPU time. I had to soft-reset after using it a few times :-(
My advice: Don't bother with it, Netbook is not a multimedia device. If you need that, get a Tablet PC or something...
