My god, is this thing loud! I'm sitting in a quiet room, using Sony S2 Sport in-the-ear headphones, and I have the E's volume set at 15% which is a comfortable level. Needless to say, the T|E is loud, really loud. :D

great, but how about some serious battery testing? (and result publishing)

I would be very thankful if somebody would test the battery with different applications and posting the results.

I entered a bunch of stuff into Ultrasoft Checkbook, and then noticed that the battery was 80%. I'm afraid that the slim body of the T|E could not accommodate a very large battery. :(

I'm affraid of that to but palm state it is a 840mAh battery and with the CPU att 126Mhz I thought the battery would last longer.

I think they should introduce some sort of speedstep in the palms.

Last night I played some Klondike, and did some other stuff. Battery was down to 60% after one hour. Ouch! :(

That is really bad, for me traveling a lot, not wanting to bring a notebook everywhere, the tungsten E seemed perfect but with the bad battery time I'm not so sure anymore. So, I'll have to stick with my Vx for some time.

Today's battery life was no better. I returned the T|E and will go with the Zire 71 instead. Besides, I hated not having a cradle. Hopefully the batter life on this unit was an isolated incident.

I doubt the Z71 has much better battery life. When I bought my Vx, battery life and simplicity was the things that made me choose a palm, now only simplicity is left. I hope the spring releases from palm will have a much improved battery life.

You can dim the backlight (though it could be dimmer still, for my liking) and lock the buttons when the unit is shut off. I do that and have Beam Receive off, but I'd still be lucky to go one day between charges. Maybe I'm not a "normal user," but Palm thinks the thing should go a week between charges "under normal use."

I'll keep it, though. I'll just get an extra charger to take to work.

Update: The thing went from 100% charge to 40% overnight (about 8 hours of non-use). I'm going to try an "in-cradle reset" (soft reset while charging) and if that doesn't help, I might have to see about an exchange.

Another update: The "in-cradle reset" doesn't seem to have helped. Fully charged, then 8 hours of mostly non-use followed by about half an hour of picture viewing took it down to 27%. Rats! I've been unable to get to Palm's registration page this evening, so I'll try try again, then look into an exchange. From what I've read on other boards, this isn't "normal" battery life for a T/E at all.

I just read the "charge yer battery" section of the manual...like it's not hard to do. While not in the quick start guide the manual says that Palm recommends keeping the unit on charge when not in use. (I could not locate anything in the manual that gave specific useage time/charge or anything close to it.)

I read that to mean ALWAYS have it plugged in in the office or at home.

I also read that to mean that the battery life issue is address through this note.

And I read it to mean Palm wants to make more bucks by selling us an extra charger. How about a 12v for the car or RV?

I love the E and this may be one of those things like Graffiti 2 (I like it, by the way) that we'll just have to learn to live with until the next generation.

I saw something (on Palm's site, I think) about "a week between charges under normal use," but most posts I've read vary between one and three days of realistic use.

I charge mine if the battery drops below 80%, because the fall from there seems rather steep. The thing will stay at 100% for quite a while, then fall off. Feel your "wall wart" charger--when the unit is fully charged, the transformer will cool down; while charging, it can get pretty warm.

Also, if the E is still at 100%, I'll just plug the HotSync cable in while I surf the Web at home. That will trickle-charge the unit and make sure it's "full."
