Hi Folks
I use a MobilePro 770. It's great. One question, though: backing up the entire unit to a compact flash card would be very useful in the event of a system crash while on the road. My old Nino 500 had this type of software, and my HP Jornada 525 PocketPC has this software in ROM, but I can't find any simple, easy to use backup-to-compact-flash-card software for the MobilePro 770 or in fact for the H/PC WinCE 2.11 platform.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hey Soarbooks,
I use a mobilepro 780, and it came with a backup program called B-useful backup plus. I think your 770 should have it as well. You open it, then select the files you want to backup and then when you click start you get the option of where to backup to. Just select your storage card and you should be off to the races.
Hope that helps.

Yep, I had that program on my IBM Z50 and liked it pretty well. BSquare Sofware no longer supports Windows CE as far as I can tell, and the downoad links to their site fail to find any donwloadable WinCE software. They are off to other things.
So I think I will have to keep looking for something else, because the b-useful backup software is not supplied with the 770 MoebilePro.

Hi Soarbooks,
I had this file on a wince cd. Give it a try and see if it works. Looks like it is buseful's backup prog, it's built in on my mobilepro but I bought a cd full of stuff a while back that had this on it.
Hope it helps!

I thought this too, and even emailed BSquare, asking them why they no longer supported the CE platform. I received a really stern email back, correcting me that they still do support the CE platform and still offer the software for sale/download off of their website. It is rather difficult to find though, and they definitely seem to be emphasing something else right now other than their old suite of CE software (although what that is I cannot really figure out from their website...it's poorly designed and vague now). I just went back to the website to try and find the link for you, but I can't. They definitely do not seem to be too interested in selling true software products anymore. I emailed them again and will let you know what link they pass on to me. I'm sure I'll get incorrectly told again that it can be accessed from their website, but I've searched every link on their main page and found nothing.

Wow! Very thoughtful! Thanks!
Installed the CAB file and it in turn installed backup program, but when I launch the program it syas "this beta sofware has expired" and tells me to visit the bsquare website, which is not providing any support for windews CE stuff. So, no joy, but it sure was thoughtful of you to send the file along. Thanks again!

Oh, well, I'll keep looking, I might have another option on that cd somewhere... at least maybe an archiving prog that would go to a storage card or something...
Sorry it didn't work.

Strange my 770 didn't come with it, but my 780 did. I tried the download and it too told me the expiration date for the trial had been exceeded.
So I checked out my 780, found the backup folder in my programs folder and copied it to my desktop, and then plugged in my 770 and copied the folder onto it in the same subdirectory. Plugged in a cf memory card and it backed up perfectly. No out of date nags.
Now I can backup both machines....though I won't have the 770 much longer as it is on EBay.

I bought a 790 off of ebay with all kinds of fabulous programs pre-installed with a backup disk, somehow let the battery run down, and now need to do a restore, only there is no bUSEFUL cab on my 790. I've checked in the internal flash rom folder, but it's not there. Instead, I have folders for default info, dictionary, hpc netprofile, my documents, and nec utils. The NEC utils are ATL file, and two sync system cabs, which I've installed and aren't bUSFUL.
If anyone could post or email me a working bUSEFUL cab file, I'd be ever so grateful so I could restore my mobilepro.
Cheers,

Did you send to jesseca at gmail dot com, deleting spaces and changing the at and dot to the proper symbol and spell jesseca correctly? It should work.
I sent you a private message as well.
Cheers,

Actually I found the file somewhere else and posted to a different forum that I have one that works if anyone needs it.
But thanks very much. Will guard the new cab file like treasure.

Actually, I was trying to email the files to you, but couldn't get it to go through for whatever reason. Glad to see you found them on your own. It only took me one time of needing to restore while away from my primary host PC to realize that in addition to the backup (*.BUF) file on my CF card, I needed to add the four bUseful Backup runtime files as well!

Hi, I am Chuck and also need to get a copy of the backup software for the NEC790. Can you tell me where you downloaded it from, please? Thanks.
