Is there a way to update the Zire from 4.1 to 4.1.2. I noticed the Zire my friend just baught has this version. Is it possible for me to upgrade?

If you borrowed your friends CD and installed 4.1.2 you would be able to sync. You would just want to make sure in the hotsync manager (Hotsync menu->Custom) you set Datebook, Address book,ToDo and Memo Pad to Syncronize and set as default.

Are you referring to the OS version on the Zire itself or the Desktop software version? They're two separate things.

I don't see any OS upgrades for the Zire itself on Palm's site.
