My hotsync feature decided to stop working. I originally bought the Franklin Version, but after it lost some info stopped using it in august. I tried unsuccessfully to get it to link with outlook but couldn;t find the right tools. Then I downloaded Palm from the Palm website, tried to import the files from Franklin (you can't do it). Tried to hotsync but it wouldn;t work.

I re-installed Windows 2000.

Went back through setup and made sure we were on com 2. Checked to make sure com 2 was operational.

Thought it might be the PDA or the cradle so I loaded my Franklin Software on another machine and it synced just fine.

All I wanted to do was sync with outlook, and now I have a $300 paper weight.

Anybody help? Thanks!

The downloaded "DeskTop" software from Palm does not contain the Pocket Mirror (Chapura.com) conduit software to link to Outlook. If you have access to a Palm Install CD that disk does contain a folder with Pocket Mirror in it. If not go to the Chapura site and go to downloads. Download the "Standard PocketMirror Update" and run it once it is downloaded.
I am lost as to what is happening with your Franklin info. Run that all by me again and picture me as old and grey.

thanks Doc!

Here is the Franklin Covey thing. I used their software which came in the Palm box for awhile, then it lost all my notes previous to July. And I lost my back-up disk, so I just lost the info.

I am OK with that, but now it just won't sync at all, and frankly, I don't know if it :

a) just did it by itself
b) did it because I downloaded and installed the palm software and has some kinda compatablility issue
c) is possessed

When I begin a hotsync, it just acts like it isn't even connected and gives me the error - "The connection between your handheld and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup"

I checked set-up, I reinstalled Windows, I made sure the com port is working. I'm stumped...

Thanks again Doc

Dave,
Have you done a soft reset on the Palm?
If that fails the problem may be a registry entry on the com port.
Let me know.

I've resolved similar problems with Windows 2000 and XP in the past by installing the updated USB driver at
http://www.palm.com/support/accessories/usb/win2k_USB.html

Are you using a USB Cradle?
If not we need to work on the com port issue.

It is a com port. I went to install hardware on windows 2000 and it shows that the com port (2) is working.

However, when I go to install the pda hardware. When I click it it blinks then goes back to it.

First let me say Palm loves COM 1. If it does not get it's way it causes problems. When you have reinstalled the Desktop was it after you had uninstalled it? If the original install of the Desktop locks in a com connection that gets corrupted it needs to be uninstalled first. Try the proceedure below.

I'm experiencing a similar problem. I was synching my Vx with Outlook on a Windows 98 laptop. Just acquired a Dell desktop with XP Professional. Upgraded the OS to 4.0.1. It worked for about a month. Then- I got a message that "a connection could not be established". I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software about 30 times (literally). Have checked the registry and cleaned that; eliminated remnants of the software manually; updated Pocket Mirror. The Palm still synchs with my old machine so I know it's not the hardware. (I have a travel synch cable and a cradle- both work on the old machine/neither on the new one). I thought the serial port on the Dell might be defective but I borrowed a serial mouse to test it- and that worked. I made sure it is looking for Com 1. And yes- I disabled my Anti-virus when installing software. HELP!!!!!!! (Please).

fegordon,
I have seen your issue discussed on other Palm Boards and in some cases the problem was resolved by reinstalling Windows.

As a non-techie, the idea of reinstalling Windows makes me very nervous. A friend played around with my computer and now it's closer to working- but when I initiate a Hotsync, it says the computer hasn't sync'd with the PDA before. Yet- when I look in PocketMirror, a note with the Palm Name is there. Any ideas?

Thank you.

CONSIDER THE FOLLOW:
Go into Outlook. Look at your FOLDER LIST for a Folder named "PocketMirror." Open that folder. You should see a NOTE with your HotSync ID and a message saying not to delete the note. Courage: Delete the note. Now run your hotsync.

Hi Dr. Mud- You're terrific.

I deleted the note in Pocket Mirror. It started to synch- well, it was a false alarm. I got a message saying: "No default mail client or current mail client cannot fulfill necessary requirements. Please run MS Outlook and set it as default mail client."

When I installed the Palm software, it accepted Outlook as the mail client. What next? Also, I don't think I mentioned my computer is a Dell Dimension. I noticed in one of the chat boards that there's some issue about the interface between Palm and Dell. Wondering if that's something should focus on. I own a Palm IIIe (somewhere- haven't used it for along time). Would that be a better bet?

Thank you.

TO answer your last Question first, I do not see any benefit to be gained using the Palm III over the Palm Vx.

You should be able to go into your PC's Palm Desktop Programs Folder and click on "Mail Setup" and run the setup again for Outlook as the default.
I have always used Outlook Express as I had a few issues with Palm and Outlook but that was three or four years ago.

I went into "start" clicked on "all programs" then clicked on "Palm" then clicked "Hotsync". When I saw the Hotsync icon on the toolbar, I tried Hotsync and it worked fine.
I am using Windows XP.

The reason for this post is I read a number of solutions to this problem on line and this one worked for me. I have had my Palm for about 5 years and never had this problem before. It suddenly appeared.
