Does anyone have any advice on how best to reduce the size of a photograph in jpeg format for the purposes of e-mailing from my netBook? No PC access at the moment, or it would be easy, and the person I'm sending to will NOT be amused to receive a stack of pics at 450k each

MBMView does not appear to have a resize option. MBM Utils does, but doesn't seem to be able to save back to jpeg. I may be wrong about that, as I've only had a very few minutes to look at it after a hasty download, and I'm in need of a quick fix on this one!

The images I have are at 1600x1200 res - reducing them to, say, 400x300 would be fine for this purpose and should reduce the file size sufficiently.

Any thoughts, anyone?

TIA
Julie

nConvert lets you specify the horizontal and vertical size of jpegs (with the option to lock in the ratio). I'm not sure if you can convert from a jpeg to a jpeg, but it may be worth a try...

I just checked. nConvert does, indeed, allow you to do this.

Try this,

You will loose some quality though I don't know how much. Set MBMView to use full screen and then zoom the picture to fit the screen, tahe a screen dump, then convert the resultant mbm file to a jpg (about 15-40k).

Thanks doogald and Beaky - just got your messages now, due to limited access atm.

I tried last night saving to jpeg the result of a "fit to screen" in MBM View, and it did indeed take the file size down to about 60k in this case. That's not so bad. Quality didn't look great on the nB screen, but that's expected. I'll see what the recipient has to say about the quality as received at the other end!

I'll nip off now and check out nConvert - funny how we can tend to ignore these things until such time as we suddenly need them!
