Energy Dimmer v2.5a from 79bmedia (http://www.79bmedia.com/dimmer/) now supports the iQue. This is a great program that lets you set up dimmer setting “profiles” and to quickly change between these profiles using the standard Brightness setting button on the iQue. You can select an auto-off setting from 1 second up to 34,463 seconds (that over 573 minutes!). You can ALSO specify a separate brightness setting that kicks in automatically after a specified period of inactivity. For example, I have a profile where my initial brightness setting is set to 25% (the actual percentage is displayed, which is very convenient), and my auto-off timeout is 2 minutes, but if I don’t touch the screen or press a button after 30 seconds, the screen dims automatically to a brightness setting of 0% (full backlight off), yet the unit will remain on for the next minute and a half. Then if I tap the screen or press a button before the 2-minute auto-off timeout, the screen backlight returns to the 25% brightness setting.
I actually have two profiles set up on my iQue, both with the 30 second timeout to 0% brightness setting. One profile I’ve named “Car” with a 100% initial brightness setting, the other named “Home”, with a 25% initial brightness setting. Since Energy Dimmer replaces the standard Brightness slider on the iQue, you can very easily select the profile to use by tapping on the standard Brightness button, then selecting the appropriate profile from a dropdown menu.
I was fortunate enough to be a beta tester for this version. When I wrote them about a possible upgraded version for the iQue (I previously used it on my old Clie), I was offered the chance to beta test a new version. Apparently I was one of the first to ask for an iQue-compatible version. No, I’m not getting paid to write this, but I thought lots of us iQue users could benefit from this utility.
I think there’s a valuable lesson for all us iQue users here: If a program you like isn’t 100% compatible with the iQue, don’t hesitate to ask if it ever will be! You just might be surprised!
