I have been trying to think of ways to help the petition for the Symbian OS on the NETBOOK PRO (best get it right!) when I had the idea of registering the above site. Guess what - it is taken (and has been since 2001) by a company selling online interactive marketing brochures (they call them "netbooks"). I wonder what the legal trademark implications for this company and Psion/Teklogix are here??
The idea I was working on (which has been mooted on this forum in various guises before) is to create a "company" which could somehow license OS7 from Symbian or be a big enough organistion to say "We want a Symbian OS option on the NETBOOK PRO".
Perhaps then we could extend this capability into requesting further development of EPOC R5 on the netBook for drivers such as bluetooth etc (or any other PCMCIA option we can and should be able to use). Obviously this is a secondary function and is more wishful thinking than anything else, but if the first objective proves successful it would be nice to have something else for this organistion to aim for :)
What are the general feelings here? I was thinking along the lines of a company which could release "shares" for a set price to build up a fighting fund. I know I would be willing to buy a share or two if it means further development of the netbook series.
Remember, the GPRS functionality was added to the netbook to satisfy an order for only around 4000 units. While I am not suggesting we would get that much support, I am sure we could at least get noticed.
One other thing, I don't see this as interfering with anything other members are doing in this area, rather complementing and perhaps enhancing what is already being done. I see this as a way of getting everyone involved and having some money to make a difference, because after all, that is what it all comes down to.
