Help!

Have a Psion 5 that has developed a stong desire to flatten new batteries within 24-36 hours even though the Psion appears to be switched off (Fn+Esc). Batteries used were Duracell.
Backup battery is good at 3v.

In addition also set connection status to off.

Have tried soft reset - no effect!
Have done hard reset, all power removed for 72 hours - no effect!

Does anybody have any ideas before I turn it into a missile?

Almost certainly a hardware fault with a short circuit somewhere, so the options are:

1) Repair - Pinnock Organiser Services (http://www.posltd.com), whose service is first class.
2) "turn it into a missile".

Thanks Mike for suggestion.

This is my second Psion and inherited from E-bay (cheap duff goods).

Have inspected the battery bay again and there appears the be some traces of copper from a previous battery leak. Will now consider stripping the device down and see if anything jumps out.

If still faulty, will have to resist the urge to turn into TITAN 3 and will most likely keep it for spares (screen&keyboard) for my primary Psion.

Cheers
