IIIc Sync help needed, no beeps

Ok, am a total PDA newbie. I got a Palm IIIc with cradle and 'How to Do Everything with your Palm Handheld' book(2nd Ed.), with it. The palm works great. I downloaded Palm Desktop ver 4.1 off the Palm site(I got no manuel or CD with the IIIc). According to the almost 2inch thick book I just hit the hotsync button on the cradle and presto!! Na da, said it should beep twice, I hear no beeps. Am I missing software? missing a simple step?

I have checked the com setting, took my digital camera off com1, even removed the software.

Oh how I wanna play with my new toy!!

Hey, well, as to the beeps, go into the preferences program, go to general, then adjust the sounds from there.

If it is a problem with computer connection, make sure hotsync manager is running, there should be a little icon in the taskbar tray on your computer(bottom right corner) that will look like a little swirly thing with 2 arrows in it.

If this doesn't work, try going into the hotsync program on your IIIc and pressing the hotsync button in there, that may help if the cradle button is broken.

Also, restart your computer and try again. Go to start/run type in msconfig, and make sure hotsync manager is set to start everytime you turn on your computer. To manually activate hotsync manager, go to start/programs/palm desktop/hotsync manager.

To find out what os your palm has, go to the main launcher, drop down the menu(top left), go to info, and it should be listed there. It should be either 3.5 or 4.1.

Instapp.exe is the program that installs new software on your pda, I'm not sure about the other.
