As a long term Series 7 user I'm intersted in the Netbook Pro but I can't see where all the normal office/ PDA applications (such as Word, Sheet, Data, Contacts, Diary and Jotter) are going to come from. I found a document on the Microsoft web site ("Comparison of Windows CE .NET 4.2, Pocket PC 2002, and Windows Mobile 2003 Software for Pocket PCs") that seems to indicate that no equivalent apps (such as Excel or Pocket Excel) are available for Windows CE.NET.

Does anyone know of any suitable apps that will run on Windows CE.NET? Otherwise the Netbook Pro seems to be a non-starter as a Series 7/Netbook replacement

I think you're absolutely right. It *is* a non-starter as a netBook/S7 replacement.

Apart from the price of the device you will have to procure 3rd party software to provide basic office features.

PT has been frank and honest that NETBOOK PRO - despite its name - is not meant as a netBook replacement. The people who have been suggesting a name change have a valid point.

Of course, since the hardware platform appears absolutely marvellous, it is really about putting new software on it.

I personally believe that a netBook Pro Symbian v7 with the QuickOffice suite would be the ideal combination and a true netBook/S7 replacement. And it would be even more than that, since QuickOffice is going to be available on Symbian OS 7.0 phones as well.

BTW: QuickOffice includes QuickWord, QuickSheet and QuickPoint.

cheers
Martin

What about these guys?

They seem to be hard at work on Windows CE software. Their word processing program is available and there seems to be a spreadsheet program to come.
