I bought a T3 2 days ago and never having had a PDA, from what I have read the T3 should do more than what I need. Although I have found that you can only search in the contacts by last name, I will be using this for my business and I have over 700 contacts. It is hard to remember all their last names, so it would be useful if I could search by company, so is this possible with the existing program or is their a better program that will also sync with outlook and the other programs on the PDA for emails phone calls etc.

And, it may be possible to do a search by company in it. However, with such a large data base fo contacts myself, I've opted to use SuperNames, which pretty much does it all. I have not used the sync function with outlooks, but from what I hear, it's no problem. Here's the URL:

Good luck!

You can always use the built in "find" function which will search for a keyword in all applications - very useful.

I really like Super Names, but there are many other readers who may like other address book replacements. At one time Super Names was considered too large an application, and that size was a deterrent to loading it on a space challenged PDA. Now that the T3 has so much (relatively speaking) space, that's not considered a problem. Super Names is a very feature-rich application, yet not difficult to use, especially for the basics. As time goes on, you'll find yourself exploring its many advanced features, and will be glad you purchased it.
As an aside, just remember to back up your files, especially your palm files, regularly, and keep them in a safe place. I just had a friend have his Palm "lifted," and while he's not complaining about losing the palm, since he purchased a 'newer' model, the T2, he sorely misses all his data, which wasn't backed up.
You may want to check out a palm software site like www.palmgear.com for other applications, many (not most) of which are free.
Good luck!

Thanks Captain.
If I install another data base as per your suggestion, when I sync the T3 with my desk top will the contacts up date in the original program and the new or will their be an option to choose either as default.
Thanks

No problem . . . Generally, if you make no changes within the Custom settings when you do a hot sync, the address/contact programs will sychronize with each other and update each other. Nothing will be lost. However, if you go into Hot Sync Manager (should be in your task bar tray on you Desktop PC or in the Palm Desktop program itself) and select custom settings, you can have the handheld to overide the desktop or vice versa. this is handy if are updating a new handheld, with nothing on it and want all of your data, which is on you Desktop to load to the new handheld (Desktop overrides handheld).

It's possible:
While in contacts, tap menu, tap options, tap preferences. Here you can set the T3 to list by Last Name, First Name (default) or change to Company, Last Name.
The other programs mentioned are great but if your new to Palm interface then I'd suggest discovery before purchase.
The other issue is that the T3 is using a total different database for contacts then the previous Palm hardware and as such some of the other programs may not yet be configured correctly to use this enhanced database.
Make certain that the software specifically states that it will work with a T3 because my search at PalmGear does not reveal that many programs - yet.
EDIT: FYI Supernames most current version is July 2003 so I doubt that it's T3 enabled yet so I'd wait before trying since your a newbie because when the Palm software hiccups - it can cause a hard reset which is a loss of data in the field, potentially.
Regarding backup - each time you sync to the desktop - the software and data are backed up to a folder: normally,
C:\Program Files\Palm\SR\backup
review this folder after syncing and you'll notice that the dates and times of the files contained within will be backed up.
If you want to be freelance and backup to an SD card then purchase either backup buddy or backman from PalmGear but if you are tied to a desktop unit - it's probably unneccessary.
