Does anyone know how to get pocket ie on the 780 to work with secure web sites. I feel like I have tried every suggestion and site around, but I still can't get into sites like hotmail or even onto my university's mail program, which the desktop has no problem with.
I have tried the following security 'upgrades' with no result...
128bitHPC - package for the web
MSWinCE128
schannel.dll.
My head is starting to hurt from hitting the wall here, any ideas?
Please!!!!

I may be sending you back to somewhere you've already been, but after installing the security upgrade did you go to PocketIE, View, Options, Advanced, Security button, and make sure that all three security protocols are checked? You will also usually need to enable cookies via the checkbox to the left of the Security button in the procedures mentioned above.
I've had some security problems like you described, and when I tried the above, it wouldn't take me to the screen where I could select the three protocols. I had to reinstall the security update and then go through the above process and it worked again.

Thanks for the attempt Pilot, I doublechecked that but I had already set all those options to where they are 'supposed' to be, and still no luck. Any other ideas? Is there a patch out there I haven't found yet? Or could it be because I am trying to access the net through a shared internet connection through a network?
I don't think that should make a difference but????

Hmmm...you would have to further define, "shared internet connection". That could very well be your issue. Have you tried accessing the internet from dial-up networking on you MobilePro (direct phone connection)? You could just be having proxy server type issues.

I have not tried via straight dial-up, but I didn't think it should be necessary when I can surf the net all I want and only secure sites are at issue. Hmm... how do you use an internal modem, I'm not sure I 'remember' how to do that it's been so long!
;-)
Anyways, I'll give that a try, but I'm not holding my breath!

You might be spinning your wheels for no reason.
Just having 128BIT encryption enabled doesn't guarentee your ability to access secure sites. Many (more than few) secure sites poll the version of the web browser being used and reject any IE that are less then 5.0
Windows CE versions below CE 2002 and HPC 2000 resolve the IE version as 3.02.
I suspect this is your problem.
To verify if the 12BIT upgrade is working, you can check using this:

I'm afraid you'll find that your issues are related to the IE version and not the encryption level.
Your only recourse (if you MUST get to secure sites not now available) is to upgrade to a newer version of PIE.

I am able to at least check Hotmail, Excite mail, etc., on my H/PC running the same version of PIE he is. It that does turn out to be the problem, then it's a permanent problem -- there's no way to "upgrade" to a new version of PIE without buying a MP790. This is something I've always found rather humorous since Microsoft bought Hotmail. It all started with my CE 1.0 MP450 -- I would get error messages from the Hotmail site, informing me that I need to upgrade my version of Internet Explorer and then would transfer me to the IE download site. Funny part is that a MICROSOFT website doesn't even recognize an imbedded MICROSOFT operating system enough to just tell you that you're out of luck. Just shows you the lack of interdepartmental cooperation that occurs in the Microsoft monster. FYI, the Hotmail error followed right behind me with each CE device upgrade I made...CE 1.0, CE 2.0, CE 2.11. I now have been successfully using CE 2.11 with every "secure" site I've tried to access, including Hotmail, so I'm not sure why he cannot get access unless it's something to do with whatever proxy config he's using.

Hi Chris
I also have problems getting into secure sites even though all security/SSL settings are checked in IE options.
I wonder what sequence you followed to get things to work.
All the best

I got things to work quite a while ago -- I haven't owned a HPC for over a year now, so I'm sure the security stuff on the internet has gone through another change, making in non-compatible with PIE security once again. Probably the only way to resolve it is upgrading to the latest OS/PIE, but to do that you're going to have to buy a new(er) HPC. Internet security settings chased me all the way through WinCE 1.0, 2.0, and 2.11 ("Pro"). I never went beyond that, but was accessing Hotmail, ExciteMail, Ebay, PayPal, and buying things online from secure sites just fine before I sold my HPC Pro machine.

I know that there is a security update available at the microsoft web site, but as some here have said, even with this applied I still cannot access sites like Yahoo email. An error message appears telling me that I must use a later version of IE.
So my question is- does anyone-
a- Know where to get a replacement browser that would work or
b- Know how to hack the registry on the 780 to report a later version of IE?

Ken
Hotmail has been a problem since they changed their format on the web site. I can get on but I could n't answer any emails, then couldn't open them.. Yahoo I can access everything and secured sites as well with no problem..
I am using J720 and Intermec 6651.
