When OS 6 comes out, will I be able to upgrade the T|E? Should I even be concerned about this, or is it not a big deal? I'm not even sure if I would even upgrade the OS?

It should be possible to upgrade to OS 6 provided that the new operating system will fit in the Tungsten E's ROM.

I wouldn't worry about it too much though. Palm will not completely abandon OS 5 when OS 6 comes out.

I don't think the E has Flash ROM, so that would rule out an upgrade right there.

Telyx is correct; the E does not have FLash Rom capabilities.
Any time you see Palm or Sony offering a low price you should expect to accept the OS for what it is and not expect to be able to upgrade the OS with anything more than software patches.

According to several web sites that have reviewed the Palm Tungsten E, it does have an upgradeable OS.

One such site is Infosync World (http://www.infosyncworld.com/hardware/handhelds/specs/227.html).

I wouldn't worry about an OS6 upgrade. I bought my OS 3.5 Sony Clie 710 shortly before OS4 was released. Sony offered a $50.00 upgrade path (send in your machine and thy'd replace the chip). I never took them up on it and I never missed it.

To a certain extent, OS Upgrades are mostly useful to support new hardware with new capabilities. I don't think they're that essential for older devices. By the time you feel you'd like OS6 on your machine you'll probably be ready for new hardware too.

I agree with David. By the time you think the new OS is a real need you will want the new hardware too.

I did call Palm and the E cannot be upgraded. The infosync site is beautiful but wrong.

PS: One of my favorite Palms is a Vx/IBM c3 runnig OS 3.5.5.
