Mobilpro 770 MSN/Hotmail Connection

I recently purchased my mobilepro 770 off of ebay and I love it. However, the main reason I puchased it was to give me accessibility to my email when I am out of town on business. I need access to my MSN/Hotmail account and have been unable to find any software that will allow me access. Does anyone know what's out there??? Please help this has become quite frustrating.....handyman7603

The MSN software that you have on your desktop is not available to make a dialup connection to MSN.com. Or at least it wasn't back when I used MSN. You could enter the local MSN phone number and dial it, but would be immediately dropped since there was no negotiation. However, that is not to say you cannot access your email.

What I ended up doing was getting a second ISP, one that used the standard SMTP email settings. I could dial them up via my internal modem on my Mobilepro and connect. Since I used my prepaid telephone card, it was pretty cheap. Only 4 cents a minute. After connecting I would then, using the IE browser, go to the msn.com web site and could then click on the hotmail tab, enter my password and then read and respond to my email.

Also these days, a lot of hotels/motels have ethernet connections in the room, so you could do the same thing without an ISP, saving the cost of a phone call, if you used an ethernet card in the pcmcia or cf slot.

But it has been several years since I've been with MSN, so maybe there is new software or a work-around out there I don't know of?

The Mobilepro devices are on the edge of not working with many mainstream email providers. 'Progress' marches on leaving relatively new devices in the dust.

My understanding is that Hotmail is not an option :( I agree that you need a provider that allows PPP connections from the outside world and does not mandate authenticated smtp.

I have a similar problem. I have Earthlink and Apple accounts as my main email boxes. Yahoo mail, Earthlink's webmail and Apple's .mac web mail don't work with my 790. Earthlink uses authenticated smtp for third-party connects and that is not an option for Mobilepro devices.

I ended up using regular Earthlink dialup access when I am on the road with my 790.
