I bought a Mobilepro 770 off eBay and I cannot get it to connect to my computer. I do not have the serial cable so I am trying to get IRDA to work. But the MP wont connect to etheir my win2k IBM thinkpad, my WINME desktop, or a xp desktop I have. THie computers can send files between themselves over the IRDA but when I follow the steps for connecting the MP the computer thinks its connected while the MP is still trying to connect. I have tried everything - help would be appreciated...

double check in irda under mobilepro settings that irda is set to 115.2 kbps and that your computers are set to the same speed. Mobilepro comes on the default of 4 mbps I think, and the desktop and laptop won't likely recognized that. That being said, if the laptop can be set that high, try it, just make sure both are the same speed or you won't get connected.

Hope that helps!

I tried the irda thing too...could never get it to work...I am sure it was just me.

But eventually I got so tired of trying I just gave up and bought a serial cable on EBay for $10....works like a champ.

Strange thing is I can send and receive files using infrared okay using the WinCE send/receive file options, but could never get the irda on my computer to synch with using activesync with my 770.

If I'm not mistaken, the first time you connect your MobilePro to your desktop has to be with the serial cable and not IRDA, network, etc., otherwise you will not be able to synchronize, setup a "relationship", etc.

I always synchronize mine over a home network connection, but encountered the above issue when I've had to hard reset it a couple of times. I believe ActiveSync actually told me with an info window or the help function that it had to be connected via the serial connection the first time.

Both my laptop and pc connectoin support 4mps but i tried 115 anyway, wiht no success. I will probably just go and buy a serial cable, but I am kinda wondering if the guy just sent my a mobilepro with a bad irda port. I cant get it to do anything.

Rather than trying to synch a program to your mobilepro using the irda, just try sending a file to another device using the irda in direct send mode....just make sure that both devices have the same speed set....

I never did figure out how to sync my 770, yet I was able to send/recieve a file directly between it and my Casio E100

You could also try printing to an IRDA capable printer (most new laserprinters are). Although I was able to get a Dell notebook with XP on it to recognize that a handheld PC was attempting to contact it via the IRDA, I was never able to get it to truly connect even just to send a file. However, I was able to print to an IRDA printer, and that worked GREAT. Talk about a wonderful thing -- you can literally just walk up to any capable printer and print from your MobilePro with very little configuration required at your mobilepro end.
