I am unable to hotsync my Palm V running Mac OS9.2 and a Keyspan USB adapter. Up until recently, everything was working fine until I tried to add a second printer to my system. Installation of new software seems to have messed up my system somewhat. I've managed to get everything working properly accept my Palm. I reinstalled Palm Desktop 4.0 and Keyspan's latest driver 2.5. When I attempt to sync my Palm, the Palm Hotsync Manager logo appears briefly, followed by a text box indicating a Type 2 error has occurred.

Following receipt of Palm Tech Support message, I've reinstalled the software at least three times but the same error message occurs when I attempt to invoke a hotsync. Interestingly, the software install goes fine expect the confirmation window never opens to prompt me to set up the HotSync Manager software and therein, I think, lies my problem.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem with there Mac and any Palm PDA? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

In all of your efforts to get straighten out did you reinstall the Mac OS? If not give that a try.

No, I thought that might be my last resort. I hate to do it because my preferences and settings all get trashed, don't they. I think my OS CD is something like 8.6. After installing that, I'd have to install 9.2.

hey,

did your printer installation program crash while installing? if it did you will most likely have to do a clean install of mac os. your mac os cd should be 8.5 (8.6 is a download update) or 9.1 (i just did a 9.2.1 download update). merge the old and new system folders. conflict catcher works great for this.

i have successfully removed dud installers in the past, albeit with several desktop rebuilds to get the system back to normal. the last failed install caused the system to hate by usb/serial adapter so much it knocked the port offline. use filebuddy to look for invisible but functional installer remnants.

above all!!! Make sure this is not an extensions confict between your pda adapter extensions, palm extensions and printer extensions.

best of luck.

I had a brainstorm last night. Got up and downloaded the previous version of Palm Desktop (2.6.3). Uninstalled 4.0 and all associated files and installed 2.6.3. The damn thing works flawlessly. I still can't figure out why I couldn't get 4.0 to install properly. At any rate, all is well now!
