You might check to see what other apps are running in the background. I had the Same problem with my 760 until I found the app causing the problem. In most Windows versions, go to the Start menu and choose Run-type MSCONFIG and then hit enter. Go to the startup tab. There you will see all apps that are running in the background. The enabled ones will have check marks by their name. Don't uncheck the system tray or Explorer if those 2 are listed. You'll have to uncheck one at a time, restart your PC and then try and Hotsync. When/if you uncheck one that makes your Hotsync work, that's the culprit. Otherwise, I don't really have any more suggestions. If I think of something else, I'll post again.

Are you hooking up to a hub or a main USB port? I've heard of problems transfering through some hubs.

Is your USB port build into the motherboard or is it a separate PCI card?

Are you sure? did you take a peek into your case? I don't doubt you but your problem is quite unusual. USB is pretty straight forward and the only time you get problems and it sounds like its a conflict of the port of some sort it normally means that the USB is not built into the motherboard but installed or added later. take a peek into the case...

I had the same problem. I uninstalled all USB devices (scanner, printer, Clie palm desktop), unplugged all of the usb devices from the computer and reinstalled each one. The Clie documentation indicates that you have to install the software before plugging in the USB plug.

After reinstalling all devices, my clie syncs flawlessly. Worked for me.

You are all thinking too hard. The 760 makes a crappy connection to the base. Remember the old consol game cartridges? What works for me is to blow on the 760 connector and the base before docking. If that does not work, try holding the 760 down while it syncs. If someone has found a long-term fix for this let me know!

It is clearly not the connection. I had unplugged and replugged the jack multiple times and even used my travel cable and still got the same error message about the port being used. I do not get that message anymore and the hotsync goes flawlessly since I uninstalled and then reinstalled the USB devices (always unplugging before the software install, then plugging back in after the device software was reinstalled). Don't ask me why it matters, but it solved the problem for me.
