I have heard the modem screeching still exists... How about the iQue wouldn't turn on until you do a soft reset? does that still happend? How about hardware reset? (Garmin claimed they fix that issue) is it true?

There was no mention of SDIO support in the change history.

I think SDIO is a hardware feature, I don't think firmware can change that.

My auto nav kit doesnt make noise with my Q anymore, all the clicking, speaker swtiching, gone! Plus, recalc and off route is amazingly faster. The blinking graffiti box is gone (when you backspace or write really fast), and supposidly sat aq. is noticeable diff. Just some things i noticed.

1) Got the screech when I did the required soft reset after the four minute installation.
2) Two spontaneous soft resets.
3) Had to initiate two additional soft resets to get everything working properly.
4) Unexpected battery drain. GPS was off, iQUE was off. Battery went from 90% to 30% in about six hours under these conditions.

Oh man that's bad.. in fact the unexpected battery drain sounded new to me..I wish more people with the new firmware release 2 confirm this please.

It seems to have removed the dreaded static electricity hard reset for me. Except...I was driving home after work, and it suddenly jumped my position a few blocks off my route for a few seconds. I was in a very open area. Last night I watched the news and there were some major solar flares interfering with airline navigation systems. Hope that's all it was for me. It was weird, never saw that happen before.

I'm actually getting the screech more often now that I've installed the firmware upgrade. I got it twice in about 10 minutes while navigating on the way home, about 15 minutes after installing it. Previously, I had never gotten the screech more often then about once a week. As before, if you just let the screech "play itself out", when it stops, everything is ok. I guess I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up, since as someone else here pointed out on another thread, there was NO mention of the screech being eliminated in Garmin's list of what the update addressed.

I'm starting to think that the screeching is more of a hardware problem than a software problem and as such, will never be fixed with just a software update.

I hope I'm wrong. :(

Right after the iQue was released various people went digging through the specs of the various chips used in the iQue.

The general concensus seemed to be that the hardware in the iQue could deal with SDIO, but that it appeared that it was not implemented.

There was speculation (by myself and others) that the ability was there, but not implemented in SW/FW due to interference between SDIO/BT cards and the GPS.

It is also possible that the chips in the iQue can deal with SDIO, but that the fill capabilities of the chipset are not being used. This could be a physical limitation in that a "jumper" or other physical sonnection is not being made. i.e., "tie pin 345 high to enable SDIO". If a required physical or logical connection is not made, than a FW or SW update would not solve the problem, even if the chipset is SDIO compatible.

Too bad for me as as I consider the lack of SDIO as a signifigant issue.

You may possibly have had the MP3 player on, or started an unintended voice recording or bumped the power switch. You'd generally notice the MP3 player because of the power light blinking, tho. I updated yesterday and after 10 hours of being 'off' it still had 100% battery.

I have the new release installed and see
no power problems.

Regarding the Battery Drain Issue: My unit was off for 5.5 hours and still had %100 power after that, so I am not experiencing any power loss.

Regarding problems with Release 2:

Intellisync Lite would not grab my contact list from Outlook until I changed something in the field mapping and then it finally download my contact list. I then changed the field mapping back to what it originally was and all was well.

Also, the Eudora Mail program on the iQue had an error every time it tried to sync with Outlook which it did not have prior to the update. I have uninstalled Eudora, but I have not reinstalled it yet.

If they can fix the static issue which I think it's more of a hardware issue than software, I am sure they can fix the modem screech issue as well. (Well hopefully! :D)

Coop, I am with you.. As I love to have bluetooth on my iQue so it would be a all in one solution.. like I stated above, static seems like a hardware issue.. if they can fix that.. you never know if they will implement the SDIO.. :) keep our finger crossed..

btw, it would never be a all in one solution, as I am still carrying two PDAs, one is the T-mobile pocketpc phone and this iQue.. but most of the times I leave my iQue at home as I already have build-in NAV in my car. but I really love my iQue because it's very unique.. :)

When I first got my iQue I had the screech problem persistently. I contacted Garmin and after they had me try the double soft reset thing a couple of times they had me RMA the unit. I got a new one back and (knock wood) have never had a single screech since (over a month and a half of heavy use). This would seem to confirm that it is a hardware issue...

so far I have not hear anyone mentioned about the hardware reset, so I assume it's fixed?

Since the patch, I have not had any involuntary hard resets, but have since had two soft resets (on one of the occasions, there was definitely a static discharge). I suspect that Garmin made whatever was causing the original hard resets (static or something else) to do a soft reset instead...

I still have the speaker clicking too, and I get the screeching sound mostly when I am trying to play a movie in kinoma. That screeching sound it definitly related to accessing the sd card for me.

I had no screeching until the update, within an hour I got my first screech, I hope this doesn't happen often.

Off-road now saves as off-road instead of finding nearest road. Still no magnetic north, or vias in off-road mode.

Had my iQue for exactly one week now. No schreeches before upgrade; one last night in pouring rain. Lasted about 15-20 seconds.
I love my ique!

I did the release 2 update and could not acquire any sats. The next day (yesterday) I got one sat (#11) right in the middle of the sat screen with all the others grouped around the outside (horizon). Slowly more sats came in and would jump into it's proper spot. Later I hooked it up to the external antennae and everything is now fine.
Cough, Gasp from San Diego (I'm fine).
