After my wife close it with the slylus pen on the keyboard
a big crack apeared over the display
Its displaying good colors ,but the digitizer stopped working
and its realy a nasty crack all over it!
What can I do?
can it be fix? - changing only the digitizer plate ?
who should I contact ?
how much should this fix cost???

I'm pretty sure the MP880 is still fully supported by NEC, which means they usually offer a repair deal where you send it to them and for a set price they will repair anything wrong with it (as if they were re-refurbishing it). The price used to be under $200 for this, but I don't know what it would be now or what it would be for the larger form factor of the 8xx series, but how much of a "deal" it is to you depends on how much is wrong with it. If a couple of keys on the keyboard weren't working, it would be a ripoff, but if your display is cracked...well, that would be a deal.

I'm confused by what you mean when you say, "digitizer" ???

well - the display as a 9.4 inch lcd display
is working ok
the problem is the touch screen ability
which is dead and its very ugly crack

maybe I can change the cracked plate with
a dummy one - so I wont have touch screen abilities, but still able to use it with a usb
mouse..

Sounds to me that there's more damage than you might be thinking. Isn't the touch screen layer flexible -- how could it crack? It sounds to me like the LCD screen is cracked.

Every once in a while, there's quite few Mobilepro screens for sale as parts on eBay. Although, I have to admit these are usually the smaller screens for the MP7xx line. You may be able to find a MP800/880 for sale on eBay as parts...maybe a dead motherboard or something where the screen is still fine.

You are correct, as long as you don't need to use the touch screen capability, and the color lcd is intact...you can get by using a mouse.

But consider: if you attempt to replace the digitizer with standard glass, if you fracture it, you are in jeopardy of seriously damaging your lcd.

If you don't replace it, your lcd is vulnerable.

I would recommend replacing the digitizer with a thin piece of acrylic if possible and search the internet for a replacement 880 screen.

Hopefully you have a usb mouse already with drivers loaded out there that you can use....

Or..you can just sell what you have for parts and have a good reason to buy something new...like a Fujitsu P1110...

Now there is something sweet!

The Fujitsu I saw has a list price of about $1000 on their web site, touch screen, but runs Windows XP or Win98...whatever you want. Were talking smaller than a laptop, but with the ability to run any standard Windows program...makes for much greater flexibility.

I really like the smaller size best of all.
