Thank you! PDASROCK 10-05-2002, 11:10 PM I've never heard of a sony memory stick modem, and I don't think they have one yet. On the other hand, you may consider switching to one of the new os 5 pdas coming out, they are designed to be used with the internet(palm realized they were falling behind). Or you could get a blutooth stick for your current pda. I really don't know if anyone is planning on coming out with a sony stick modem, sony tends to develop something, advertise, sell, drop and move on, without looking back that much. If some other company gets a bright idea though?? It is perfectly possible that I'm way off, but I really don't think it will happen.:( cerberus 10-05-2002, 11:25 PM Yeah, the new NX series might be the way you want to go. Although, I hear the CF slot is only for 802.11 CF cards. Maybe just rumor thought. If you want to stick with your NR, Sony makes a CF sled for it that is available in Japan. It will work with the English NR, but the program associated with it is in Japanese. The CF sled will allow you to use a CF modem to connect to the Internet. But unless you know Japanese, I'd say you might be out of luck until Bluetooth becomes more popular(if ever).:) PDASROCK 10-06-2002, 08:49 PM Yeah, the cf will only be for 802.11, stinks, huh? I suppose most needs would be covered by th sony memory sticks, but still, if they're gonna make something... make it right. Compatability is key. Oh well... luv2laff 10-07-2002, 11:17 AM Thanks. Actually I was thinking in terms of a modem for the USB/AC sync port (or whatever it's called). Heard of such a thing?:D van 10-08-2002, 11:40 PM I have no experience with this, so I would appreciate comments from those that have, since I am interested in doing the same thing. I believe NR users could just use about any modem in conjunction with the "Standard Modem" choice in the Connection Prefs if we had a serial-port cable connection from the external interface connector to that modem. Even though I don't see many general-purpose cables for the NR, the Sony SDK docs say the connector on the NR Clies is 100% compatible with the T-series connector, so any NR/T cable would work. There are quite a few of these ... here are just a couple I found: http://shop.brando.com.hk/clietmodemcable.php http://www.pc-mobile.net/clie.htm So, just get a cable like this, plug it into some a modem, and you should be able to get on-line ... Right ?!?!? (Did I remember to say I have no real experience with this? It is just a theory ... that will cost me $20-30 bucks to prove. <smile> I would appreciate any comments from experienced users.) Mason 10-09-2002, 11:07 AM Be sure that the plug at the modem-end of the cable is compatible with your modem device. The cables I saw in Japan in August all looked like they were intended for use with the external ports on Japanese cellphones. (Topology unique to Japan.) martindale 10-09-2002, 12:15 PM See 3jtech.com. I am presently using this modem with the NR70 using infra red with complete success.. It will also accept a serial connection. PDASROCK 10-09-2002, 03:33 PM I think that there is a Psion ir modem that would do what you want. I don't know much about it, but it would probably work with any palm os pda, without regard do serial connection. http://www.pdastreet.com/forums//showthread.php?s=&postid=9674#post9674 Look near the bottom of this thread.
