I currently own a HP 5455 upgraded to windows mobile 2003 and a Sony Viao laptop with a with a wireless card. Is there anyway to get these 2 pieces of equipment to talk to each other. I would like to transfer files using "My Computer". I would also like to communicate with my associates in the same manner (They also have the same PDA as me).

You can establish Activesync connection via wifi and you should be able to transer files through regular file explorer. However I don't think you can transfer files between pocketpcs. Here's a nice guide:

There's also a 3rd party software that allow files transfer between pocketpcs and desktop via network conncetion without Activesync. but i'm not sure if it works with wm2003.

If your WiFi devices are connecting on the same router you can copy files between them. I do this at home. In file explorer you can enter an address \\joeDev2\MeCDrive for example. It will come up with a username, Password and Domain dialogue but it lets you save the details if you want. I'm not 100% about the other way though but I have read and written files to my desktops from the IPAQ using this method.

I guess I forgot to say that I would like to do this without a router. I travel 95% of the time and I am trying to keep the accessories down for weight reasons. Thanks for the help

In addition to methods mentioned above, you shold be able to transfer files through infrared port between pocketpcs and pocketpc and laptop without any additional hardware or software.

Doesn't anyone use the ad Hoc feature on their cards? If you have two WiFi cards, you should be able to use them in ad hoc mode & have them communicate w/o IR or activesync. Although, now that I think of it, activesync should add that on as a feature since we're becoming an 802.11x world.
Hopefully someone will suggest it or the aliens that put the chip in the back of my neck are monitoring me & will relay the info to microsoft.
I know that Bill Gates is paying them plenty of money for new tech, ideas & mating / migration patterns, so maybe...
