Hi

I have recently purchased an almost unused Ericsson MC218, and purchased a new PC Connectivity Cable (same as for Psion 5mx) from Widget Australia (the previous owner had lost the original).

I have installed EPOC Connect from the installation CD on 2 desktop PC’s at home but have been unsuccessful in making a connection from either.

From the “readme”, I have unchecked in-turn Com 1 & Com 2 but it has made no difference. (One PC does not even have a modem anyway, and both mouses are PS2 type.)

I’m wondering if the problem lies with the HandHeld itself because “Access denied” displays when I set the link to “Cable” and the “Baud rate” to 115200.

I don’t know if it is relevant, but no program for Comms.nam can be found on the H/H when tapping on it’s desktop icon.

Can anyone be of any assistance please?

Thank you,

Adrian Griffiths

A few suggestions:

What version of Windows do you have? If its 2000/XP, then you need to get hold of Psiwin 2.3.3 (Psion's name for EPOCConnect) as this is the only version that works with the most recent OSes from Microsoft.

Regarding the 'access denied' message, this error is usually seen if one tries to enable the link to desktop when an application is open that is using the serial port already. From what you've said, the most likely culprit is Comms (this is a terminal emulation program, and is NOT used when connecting to a desktop PC with EPOCConnect/Psiwin). If you have closed all open programs and still see this error, I suggest trying increasing levels of reset (see my FAQ at the URL below for instructions).

Thank you. I checked out the suggestions but they did not solve my situation. I decided to go back to basics and checked out troubleshooting in the Manual.

I found the problem (fundamental) was that some files were still open on the MC218. After closing these the connection worked.

I should have noticed this first before asking for any help. However, as a new user it's a learning curve (and it's not obvious files are open like on a Desktop).

I would now like to ask for further assistance (I've checked out the Manual and Windows Explorer first) as to how to copy selected E-mails from Outlook to the MC218.

I have been successful in copying and converting word files either way, but can't work out what to do with E-mails.

Any advice please.
