Just as long as you do not have to go through them for anything such as warranty issue and such. The price is very interesting, but I would recommend going to SonyStyle shop and wait long enough for refurb NR70V to show up there (at present, they have 760Cs for $250).

Or you can try to visit your nearest Sony factory outlet...

With refurbished products you do get the full manufacturer's warranty (1 year) but you have to send the unit to them. I haven't come across any place that sells refurbished and offers the opportunity to purchase an extended warranty. Extended warranties are great you just take the unit in to the store where you purchased it and they swap it out.

If you're interedted, I have a NR70V that I purchased in July that I'm interested in selling. Asking price is $550.00 which includes original packaging and accessories that came with the unit. Also includes a 64MB memory stick and Best Buy 3 year extended warranty that I purchased separately ($40.00 and $60.00 respectively).

If you're interested post a reply. If not, hope the information helps.

I just pre-ordered an NX70V direct from Sony, based on my previous experience with their customer support.

I bought a refurbished Sony Vaio PC from u-Bid last spring, and in September the hard drive crashed. I had backed everything up (fortunately), but was worried about getting it fixed.

I called Sony, gave them my model number, serial number, and approximate date of purchase, and they said "no problem". They FEDEX'ed a box to me (arrived the next day) with the foam inside to pack it in, and even included a pre-paid FEDEX label to return it with.

They wanted a copy of the receipt which I couldn't find, so after a lot of digging on the u-Bid website, I finally called their main number, and was transferred to their customer support, who were very courteous (sp?) and helpful, and faxed me a copy of my receipt that same day. The copy was dark (obviously a webpage printout), but was readable enough to prove the purchase.

Sony received it and the PC the day after, and it was with a technician for the next week, who replaced the hard drive, and FEDEX'ed the unit back to me overnight. All in all, just under two weeks from the phone call to having the machine back and running again.

Compare this to the Toshiba laptop I purchased last year from Best Buy (with the protection plan). I brought it back with power supply problems, and they resisted accepting it for repair since they couldn't replicate the problem (since when does any problem rear it's head when you need it to), but they grudgingly accepted it for repair at my insistence.

It was with them for over a month, after which time I decided enough was enough and called their support line. I was told that it had been shipped to Toshiba for repair, and that it was on it's way back to their location, and would be shipped back up to the store I dropped it off at right away.

The next week I called the store, and they confirmed it had been shipped but it hadn't arrived yet. That was two weeks ago, and it "is still being shipped". It should only take 3 days max to ship from SoCal to Seattle, and after calling every day for the past week and a half, was told that "it got left in San Francisco", but it was going to be shipped soon, and should be here in a week.

I needed that laptop for a business trip (that was earlier this week), and am extremely unhappy with the service Best Buy has given me.

I am very satisfied with uBid, but I can't say the same thing about Best Buy. Personally, if you think there will be any need for service on your purchase, DON'T BUY FROM BEST BUY!

I purchased my refurbished N760C from UBid and never had a problem, and at a great price. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a refurbished product again. MedMan

I would never buy from a place that would not allow me to return the product within 30 days, no questions asked.

I also would not buy something like the NR or NX models with the swiveling parts and keyboard without the extended warranty.

I have nothing but praise for the people at The Sony Store. They have great customer service, always go the extra mile for their customers, and they barter.

I don't know why anyone would buy at Best Buy. They have the highest prices around. Yes, they will match the other stores' prices if you want to wait while the cashier tries to call the store to verify you are being honest (not a good customer service ploy). Why should we have to wait for them to get the price they should be selling for already? Most stores have people who's job it is to know hte competitors pricing. Personally, I would go to the store that they would be phoning, not encouraging them to continue having higher prices by buying from them.

Another trick is that if you buy the extended warranty at The Sony Store they get perks for those so they will move more on the price. That means your warranty ends up costing a lot less.

If the person kicking themselves for buying the NR70V and seeing the new model come out within a month had bought it at The Sony Store, they would be laughing right now with a new NX70V!

I own a refurbished NR-70, and it works great... I'd have no problems with buying one!

Good luck! :D
