It occurs to me having looked at the spec for this thing is that all it needs is a keyboard and you've got a 5mx replacement that we've all been dying for ...

What do people think about this? How would it rate with a bluetooth/infra-red keyboard?

Another question ... anybody have any feelings/rumours on a possible forthcoming 7800(?) with a built in keyboard 'a la 9290'

Guys, found this and it is very interesting to see that Series 90 platform is very promising:-

Opera on Nokia 7700

The picture is taken from Nokia 7700 review (http://www.mobilemag.ch/tests/test.php?id=14404)

Opera running in landscape mode is a very welcomed feature. Reminds me of the old ER5 version. What do you guys think? Series 90 is going to be serious if marketed and designed properly and like some people already mentioned, with a proper keyboard and more "complete" design, we would have a modern version of Series 5. Aiye??? :D :D :D

Following Nokia's numbering logic - if there is any - such a keyboard phone would be in the 9xxx series.

Opera running in landscape mode is a very welcomed feature. Reminds me of the old ER5 version.

It is becoming increasingly clear and confirmed that Series 90 is the closest to ER5/Eikon that any consecutive UI has ever come.

We have just been playing around a bit with the Series 90 SDK and it is amazing how close it is. Ignore all the fancy colours and new icons, and you basically have a UI which behaves exactly like you would think a Psion UI would have behaved if they hadn't pulled the plug.

Since Series 90, like UIQ 2.1, has this new skin feature, I am sure that someone will design an Eikon skin. With it's three command bar buttons to the right, and the clock below, it will look just like the next generation, high resolution Revo...

Indeed Martin. You are so very true. I have also tried Series 90 SDK and found the same conclusions as yours. The only major difference between EIKON and Series 90 is the Menu structure. In EIKON, the Menu pops up from left to right while in Series 90, it pops up from top to bottom.

I think what Nokia did was to differenciate the Menu structure from EIKON so that people wont accuse them of "stealing" intellectual properties of Psion :D. Because if we look at Series 80 for example, the major difference it has over EIKON was the lack of touch-screen interface. And the keyboard on 9210 reminds me of Psion Series 3 line of products too....

Hope Nokia 7700 is not the first and the last of Series 90 device.

Yepp, I have heard the same thing.

And...that it is open for licencing like the Series 60...for instance for netBook Pro Symbian.

You mean the very same reason why Microsoft moved the Windows Toolbar to the bottom of the screen so as not to make people believe they stole the idea from MacIntosh...but which did not fool people regardless!

But in any case, the Menu structure belongs to Symbian. That's why you find basically the same structure with minor differences in Series 80, Series 90 and UIQ. So Nokia is legally licencing it...
