When I moved to the 5MX from the 3a series - I really resisted learning about its capabilities -- and primarily used it as a "gulp" address book" -- To make matters worse - I had a battery lapse and lost all my data -- fortunately I had an OLD backup and have been able to get it once into my psion - but not in the format I wanted it to be.

I carelessly and accidentally deleted the "Data" component of the operating system -- I feel really dumb for doing this so no lectures --- OK

Do I reformat and start over? If so how do I do this
OR -- (she says hopefully) is there a way to restore this part of the operating system -- (NO -- I did not have a system wide backup)

Thanks for any help with this -- I promise to be more careful and become more aware of the capibilities of my 5MX --

Nancy

I carelessly and accidentally deleted the "Data" component of the operating system You cannot possibly delete any part of the operating system, it is built into the machine's ROM which you can't alter.

Please explain what you believe is missing. You may have deleted a Data file with your information in, but the Data "application" must still be there.

Hello Mike -- Thanks for writing

I don't appear to have an address book anymore

It's just gone?

Nancy

I hope this means it's there somewhere but I just can't find it?

Is it possible that previously whenever you launched the "Data" application it opened your Address Book - now when you launch "Data" another file is opened?

This is because when you launch the Data application from the icon in 'Extras', it is always the last used file which is opened. If you find your Address Book, which is most likely in the Documents folder, highlight the file and press Enter, Data will open that file.
