I am using my second X5 - I work for an ed tech company and have written some curriculum using the Axim X5. The first unit I had (on loan from Dell) worked fine. The unit my company just bought is a bit quirky.

My problem is this:
When I recharge in the cradle, the unit goes into suspend mode and does not turn off. At first i didn't realize this, so the battery depleted.

Now after the X5 is charged, it will turn off if I depress the power button but will not turn back on unless I do a soft reset. Something is out of whack here...

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I notice that when I place mine in the cradle it will sync then go into a kind of sleep mode where the display will be very dim. It is almost invisible, but it is NOT turned off.

When I remove it from the cradle I get the disconnect sound and the screen returns to normal brightness.

Occassionally it doesn't light up and when this happens I get into this 3 Stooges type thing trying to either get it to turn off or brighten up. It is some secret combination of pressing and holding the on/off button.

I only bring this up because I seem to go through back up batteries too fast and I think it is because when I remove it from the cradle and shut it off, it only goes into the sleep mode.

The power screen will show the main battery at 100% but it will show the back-up at zero and advise me to replace it.

Anyone have any ideas?
