Serial port question

Hi, I have been offered the option to buy an MC218 from someone who only uses the included applications and has not done any programming on it. This unit would be great if the following question yeilds a positive answer!

I am interested in the use of a small PDA to control 2 stepper motors. Question, can the serial port on the 5mx/MC218 be addressed at pin level through user written programs. I have not had the opportunity to investigate programming options on these units, but I believe that Pbasic and Psion's own language are available. I also understand that people are running Linux on these?

AFAIK, as standard OPL canNOT fiddle with individual pins. If it is possible, it will likely require a special OPX, which may or may not exist.
