When I sync my Revo to my PC my e-mail messages headers sync over but I cannot open them and get the error Unrecognised message type. Can anyone give me any ideas, I am a total rookie to the Rivo and it took me ages to sync before I realised that the link was switched to off.

Colin,
you seem to have had the same problem I now have. I use a revo and a pocket PC. When I want to sync my contacts and e-mail, my Outlook cannot import my mails or contacts correctly.
What software did you install? I really want my contacts and e-mail in my Outlook program and vice versa. Sometimes I still am behind my PC.
Thanx..

My PC runs windows XP Pro my Psion the latest version of the PsiWin 2.33 I think, my problem was that I did not have the link set to cable on the Psion. Hope that is of some help.

Colin,
I hope you really haven't installed Messaging Suite on your Revo. This is only for the Series 5 (not 5mx) and will likely screw up all your e-mail settings on the Revo. You are correct that the latest e-mail update (available at Mike's website) needs to be installed but not Messaging Suite. If you have installed Messaging Suite on your Revo, you should do a hard reset and start over.:(

Ehmm I am afraid I have Jim, I have never used it and my e-mail sync is fine. Should I just remove it. I thought I required it to be installed. No worry either way as a) it is backed up and b) There is nothing in it I cant afford to loose. Thanx for the help Jim

Colin,
The e-mail sync to Outlook will probably work fine with Messaging Suite on the Revo. What won't work fine is the e-mail application if you ever need to send or receive e-mail connected to a modem. I think it will also bolux up Psion Web as well. I'm really straying into Mike's area of expertise here so you may want to wait and see if he agrees with me before you do anything drastic.
I'd do a hard reset, install the various Revo updates, then reinstall your programs. You can just uninstall Messaging Suite but I don't think that removes all the troublesome bits that get left behind. As I said, wait for Mike to confirm this is the right advice before you go through all that work.

Colin,
Basically, Message Suite 1.52 is only for the Series 5 'Classic' and must not be installed in an ER5 machine such as the Revo, Mako, 5mx etc.
Message Suite does more than just install messaging applications, it also upgrades the S5's operating system from ER2 to ER3. Installing it in an ER5 machine will, as Jim says, mess up Email and Web, but there is also a likelihood that it will cause problems when you try to use the serial port with either IR or Cable.
You really need to perform a 'hard' reset to get rid of the mess it creates but, of course, you cannot then restore a backup which included Message Suite.

Thanks Mike, O.K. to sum it all up discard the backup's still no great loss and reset the machine after removing Message Suite which I have done, I should however install Message Suite in my Series 5 (Not MX). I look forward to confirmation of the above, also a full reset of the Revo is I assume the 2 ressesed button on the back of the machine.

Yes, you do install Message Suite 1.52 in the Series 5, but only in the Series 5.
To "hard" reset the Revo, push the proverbial unbent paperclip, or whatever, into both reset holes simultaneously and, to be certain, keep them both pressed for at least ten seconds. Switch on by pressing the 'On' key twice and the Revo should beep once. If it beeps twice, you have only "soft" reset it and need to try again.

but cant open my e-mails but can see themI don't understand - if you performed a "hard" reset, there won't be any emails in the Revo.

You'll have to hope that Jim can help you because I have never sync'd with Outlook. I don't see though how syncing the Revo with Outlook to get the messages back in the Revo can render them as an "Unrecognised message type" in Outlook

Colin,
You're getting the "Unrecognized Message Type" error in Outlook? If so, is this the exact text of the error message and when does it occur?
I've never seen this message before either with Outlook or with e-mails that have been synced from my 5mx or Mako to Outlook. Just for starters, you should make sure your Office 2000 is upgraded to SP-3. There were a few strange Outlook problems that were fixed with both SP-2 and SP-3. Other than that, I need more details to give you a guess as to what might be happening.

Hi Jim, thanks for the reply. I have now got the system up and running. That was the exact message when I double clicked on a message in my inbox, I could see the title of the message but could not open it. All I did was re-installed from cd my e-mail synch s/w then re-installed the 1.15 upgrade and it all worked again. I am sure when I got the Revo I had the exact same problem and it was the same thing I did though at that time I did not realise that it cleared the problem and thought it had been the Message suite which I installed at the same time.
The s/w I have on the machine now is
E-mail sync 1.15
EPOC WEB 2.00
EPOC messaging 2.00 (System component)
Comms Component (tcp/ip) 2.00 (System Component)
I also have spell andfile viewer and printer drivers but as far as I can see that is all the essential stuff on. If I am missing something else please let me know.

Colin,
Hmmm...Another strange Windows problem. My guess is that something in your original install corrupted the Outlook messaging system and a reinstall solved the problem. I'd still make sure that your version of Outlook has all the latest updates.
Your list looks OK except for Updated Printer Drivers 5.00 and File Viewers 1.00. I'm looking at my Diamond Mako with Epoc Release 5, version 1.06 (390) English-USA and both of the files are listed as system components. There may be some differences in the Revo or the UK version though so I assume you have what's needed for your version of ER5 and the Revo.

Thanks again for the assistance Jim, I quite like the Revo and am finding it useful though a lot less power than the Series 5.
