I'm looking for opinions on gps software that you've used or at least had the chance to see in use. I need something that will be easy to enter destinations both from Contacts or by entering a destination i.e airports, etc

hi,

i just got a dell axim 5 with the pharos gps software (compact flash version). the combination is awesome! maps are easy to load, addresses and easy to key in. i give it a top rating! get it.

Thanks, but I heard the Pharos unit blocked the audio plug connection on the A5 and I was going with the Haicom 303mmf unit. It's just been a lot harder to decide where to toss the cash for software.

i guess if the audio is that important to you then go with a different solution. i would ask myself the following though: would i rather use my axim to listen to music, or would i want an exceptional gps solution? if music is a concern there are a ton of other solutions out there. if gps is your major concern (as it was mine) don't mess around by getting something "so so" for the sake of listening to music.

It was not for music, but to use it with the external speaker on the Arkon powered vent mount. And the Haicom unit has been well reviewed and user recommended. Thannks again for your input.

SWEET! No power cords to dangle between the mount and the socket. Thanks

The original Pharos CF GPS did block the headphone jack. They have since resolved the problem. I even bought the original CF GPS and once I realized it blocked the jack I called Pharos and they immediatley shipped me the replacement free of charge. They have excellent customer service. The Arkon Mount has a built in speaker that is almost a necessity because you can't hear the Dell's built in speaker for voice directions when using GPS software.
