I am having problems syncing data from my Clie to my laptop (Windows 98). Although no errors logged and the hot sync completes without error, I am unable to view new data (visible on handheld) on my laptop after a hotsync.
Recently I have also been unable to beam data (only from Date Book and Memo) to other handhelds from mine. The error I receive is: "Recived invalid format" and "Application Error". I had no problems beaming data before.
I am using:
Handheld: SONY Clie PEG-N760C
Palm OS 4.1
Hope someone can help.

Can you post your last HotSync log?

I took a closer look at the files on my Clie and laptop. It appears that the Address and Memo are intact. The ToDo is mostly intact except for a few items which had a due date. The DateBook is the really messed up one. New appointments have not been sync'ed since February but I'll live.
I did a soft reset but there was no change in the HotSync results - still not transferring new items in the DateBook.

Hey..
As far as the beaming goes... Are you running fast CPU like everyone else? if so turn it off before you beam and see what happens.
Not sure about the sync thing though. Would try to reconfigure your hotsync settings to ensure that you are set to syncronize files, instead of overwriting one piece of hardware with the other... Also, My sony uses that Pumagear Intellisync, so you have to configure it from there instead of the standard hot sync thing. ( I have already been thru that glitch.. what a pain )

It sounds like you have a date related problem. If you want to try a "some times" it works option set the date on your PC to a time just before the February date when the calendar started loosing the appointments. Do a HotSync. And then reset the date on the PC to the correct time/date.

No luck with changing the date on the PC and hotsync'ing.
What are the alternatives now?

Have you checked that the datebook conduit still exists in the Hotsync manager, I've had mine disapear on me before. The only way I know of to fix it is to reinstall the desktop.
In case you don't know how to check, right click on the Hotsync icon on your systray and select custom, this will display a list of your conduits and their actions.

Try Ian's recommendation. And reinstall the desktop to try and relink the conduit.

Ian was right - the DateBook conduit was missing! I ended up giving Sony a call since I couldn't locate my CD. Sony tech support was able to help me recover the DateBook conduit surprisingly quickly.
We determined where my data directory was located by going to Palm Desktop:Tools:Options. My data directory is in C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld.
Then we exited Palm Desktop and brought up the Start Menu:Run
and ran:
"C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\Hotsync.exe" -R
This brought back the DateBook conduit and I was able to hotsync to the laptop! Sony tech support said this will only work with the native conduits. Sometimes a conduit disappears after an install.
Unfortunately I hung up the phone before I checked the problem I had beaming data from the DateBook to another handheld. The other handhelf receives the following error - "Data received in unknown format."
I am able to receive DateBook beamed data from the other handheld but not vice versa. I'm going to try to get the same tech support person again. Does anyone know why this beam problem is still around?

I'm not surprised that the beaming is still and issue. It appeared to be a seperate problem all along.
What you and the tech accomplished was to rebuild the Registry settings thus the string ending in "-r".
Let us know how the beaming is corrected.

Unfortunately the tech support's recommendation was to do a hard reset on the Clie to empty out the memory and to remove the DateBook folder from the Palm desktop data directory. A hotsync would recreate the DateBook folder from scratch. Of course, all the data previously in DateBook is lost.
The diagnosis is that the DateBook folder got corrupted somehow.
Anyway, thanks for everyone's help!
