The settings for the 6210 shouldn't be any different with the S5 and these should be:

------------------
Name - Nokia
Speed - 57600
Connect - Infrared
Fax Class - Auto
------------------
Init (reset) - AT&F&K4
Data - (blank)
Fax - (blank)
------------------
Flow - Software (Xon/Xoff)
Terminal (DSR/DTR) [ ] not checked
Carrier (DCD) [ ] not checked
Type - Mobile
------------------

The Mail settings have nothing to do with the modem you are using, they are your mail Username, Password, email address, ISP's POP3 and SMTP servers.

he mobile settings are now as the 5mx allthough I noticed that the 'mobile' option is not present on the series 5 setup in the handshaking part.
When i try to connect to the remote mail box the following sequance happens. Phone dials up OK-Psion says 'dialling'-then 'opening the remote mailbox'-all then pauses and after 43-47 seconds get message 'timed out'. With the travell modem get alternative message 'comms line failed'. Have tries different settings in E-Mail ie. ticking and unticking MIME or AUTOSENDONOPENING. No joy? Can do all on 5mx with or with out phone?

do you have the Mobile Connectivity Update installed on the 5? There's this and a few other updates for the 5 that will improve its chances of working - check out the software downloads section at www.psion.com/myPsion/Login.asp for updates available.

do you have the Mobile Connectivity Update installed on the 5? The Mobile Connectivity Update is only for the 5mx and MC218. The S5 should have Message Suite 1.52 installed which included updated IR drivers.

he mobile settings are now as the 5mx allthough I noticed that the 'mobile' option is not present on the series 5 setup in the handshaking part. The "Mobile" setting is present in the 5mx because a Mobile phone is required for SMS messaging which the S5's mail application doesn't have.

After reading your message I set up my S5 and 6310, which should be the same as a 6210, and it worked OK.

You are having a problem with email but you don't say if you can use Web. If it is just Email, try deleting your email settings and set them up again. The fact that there is a problem with both 6210 and Travel Modem suggests it is not specifically the phone settings. If you have installed the 5mx's Mobile Connectivity Update, this might well cause problems with all IR connectivity.

In the S5, you can view a log file by creating the path C:\Logs\Netdial\ so that a Netdial.txt file is created after your next connection attempt.

oops - I stand corrected. I get confused with the names of all these updates.

'log file by creating the path C:\Logs\Netdial\'

How and where do you create such a path? How do access it and what will it tell me (probably you). Dont have the connectivity update just standard applications fromthe Psion CD. Will try this logfile thingy.

okay,

as Mike says, you ought to install Message Suite 1.52. If you don't have this on your CD, then you should download it from Psion (www.psion.com/myPsion).

To create the folder, go into your System screen, navigate up to the 'root folder' of your C drive, then tap the menu icon and go File..Create New..Folder. Type 'Logs' and hit enter. Navigate into this folder and do the same process again, only this time type 'Netdial'.

Next time you try to connect, a file will appear here. Open 'Word' then go File..More..Import text file.. and browse to the NetDial folder. Open the file, and you'll be able to see its contents.

Sorry have had many exams so banned myself from playing with the Psion and computer. Have the correct update and have deleted recreated all the settings, also did the same in 5mx setall up and again no joy in the series 5. The net file often says no carrier but what else it tells me I have no idea? Any ideas?

I suggest you post the contents of the netdial log file here on the forum, and we will offer what suggestions we can..

Hello got another series 5 and have duplicated all settings as for 5mx have the message suite and all that also. Can not connect with travel modem to mail or web? have a 'logs' file but is quite long, would some one take a look please? Was not sure if this belonged on the internet etc. board? Please advise thanks Nigel

Just be careful because the S5 uses Message Suite 1.52 where the 5mx uses a built-in Email app and Web 2.0

The log file to check in a Series 5 is "Netdial.txt" from the path C:\Logs\Netdial\Netdial.txt

If you want to email the file to me go to my website and use the button to email me. I have disabled email from the forum because my forum address is only to receive alerts on the phone.

Mike thanks for your time and all that. Can connect fine with a bt connection and still no luck with Tesco? Am considering changing ISP in the future so will look at Freeserve and others, ideally one that works ok with series 5. Thanks anyway and may have a play about. ANYONE connecting to mail OK with Tesco...Let me know!

That doesn't seem very logical - if it connects with "Web" it should also connect from "Email". I have the DNS addresses specified in my FreeUK configuration if you want to try adding those:

Primary DNS - 212.126.144.2

Secondary DNS - 212.126.144.13

Are you using the number 0845 126 4001 which is a recently introduced number?

A thousand thankyou's. I had a number wrong in the secondary DNS! Strangly the dial up numbers I was given on the phone (the free UK help number) were different to yours and when i tried the one you suggested it did not work? However with the 08453501234 one they gave and proper DNS all worked. Thanks again for your time and patience one reason I have become to realise the full potential of the Psion is through yours and others (Diem and Julie) commitment to this forum. Ta Nigel :p
