I went to the Clie Support site because my Clie wouldn't sync after upgrading to Palm desktop 4.1. Here's what Sony says:

"Upgrading to Palm(TM) Desktop software version 4.1 is not supported or recommended by Sony and will void any applicable limited warranty. A Sony(R) handheld version of the Palm(TM) Desktop software v. 4.1 does not exist at this time."

I found software that will sync the Palm desktop with the Ipod, but itonly works with version 4.1 so I'd very much like to use the newer version of the desktop.

Anyone have any news on when or if Sony will make this available the Clie T615c?

Perhaps the T 625 is different, but I had no problem installing PalmDesktop 4.1 over the Desktop for Clié 4.0.1. The Clié Desktop was a clean install from CD, after first deleting my old Palm Desktop. And I never got round to installing the interim PalmDesktop 4.01.
Perhaps you should try all over again, after burning a full back-up of course. (Mine works all-right with both WIN98 and WIN XP)

PS: I read about PD 4.1 in some Ezine; on the same page they offered something called dual date (have someboby elses diary alongside your own). I installed that, didn't like it and deleted is. On this the Clié went bonkers. I finally had to do a hard reset (twice) and reinstall PG Pocket from a backup, before going back to normal. Be sure to have a full backup of everything before trying this (or indeed any new) application!

I purchased a Sony T615 about a month ago and according to the PDA it has version 4.1 on it.

Please do not confuse OS 4.1 (running the PDA; pre-installed on it) with Palm Desktop 4.1 (running on your PC; downloadable from palm.com). PalmDesktop 4.1, when installed freshly, seems to give hot-sync problems with Clié's.
My solution was to:
0. make a backup, i.e. copy your existing Palm folder to a safe location
1. uninstall older versions of PalmDesktop (your data are kept)
2. install Desktop for Clié from the CD ROM you got in the Clié box
3. hotsync
4. download and install Palm Desktop 4.1 (do not delete or uninstall anything from Desktop for Clié)
5. hotsync again

I just bought a clie and packed with it was palm desktop version 4.0.1. Now we do not know when sony actually put this parcel together so that is a wild card! However, i am very pleased with how it is performing.

Actually, I run Desktop 4.1 and have no problems. The real problem is the USB drivers that come with the new desktop aren't compatible with the Clié. The fix is simple... Intall the original desktop that came with your Clié CD. Look for a file called USBPort.dll (it should be in a directory called \Program Files\Sony Handheld or wherever you installed it) and copy it off somewhere safe. Now you can install the new 4.1 desktop. When that is installed just replace the USBPort.dll with the one that you saved. You should have no problems with the desktop and syncing.

Makes you wonder where the HELL sony's priorities are if that's all there's to it...

Gee that is not great news! My Clie t615 came with a cd of software and I simply installed and used that software. It is the Intellisync Lite version 4.10.1998 and other than it defaulting to a modem for connection and changing it to the USB, it has been flawless for a couple of months now. I am sure I got it off their packaged CD.

This could be a problem of the past.

I didn't copy the dll as mentioned above and it worked fine with my n610c. I remember having this problem before though so either they upgraded the dll in the desktop you download or for some reason it old 4.01 sony clie palm desktop installation (which I uninstalled) left something in the winnt folder, etc.

You just never know I guess....

Well, hopefully Sony realized their mistake with the T series and fixed it with the N series (or maybe the hardware is THAT much different...). My sync wouldn't work with the 4.1 desktop until I replace the USB dll.

Go figure...

I downloaded and installed 4.1 yesterday and it worked just fine. The new desktop has 2 new applications. Note Pad and Expense reporting. I do not have anything like that on my T7615. I asked Palm and they said to talk to Sony. Anyone know where to get a copy of the Note Pad and expense applications for my Clie

The expense program I have in my Palm OS 4.1 (It seems pretty useless however). I think the other program is in Palm OS 5, so you might have to upgrade the OS. I don't know if that's possible. If you figure it out, let us know here.

"Anyone know where to get a copy of the Note Pad and expense applications for my Clie"

You can beam Notepad from any Palm device that has it, to any device with Palm OS 3.5 and up, with the aid of "Filez"; you have to beam multiple files, but it is fairly selfevident.

(I assume it is legal to do so, because you cannot buy Notepad seperately)
