OK, got the E for dh,

set it up OK, but it won't recognize the 64MB MDM Secure File PDA Backup card. Anyone else have this problem? If so, any pointers?

I checked the card mfr's website, did all the usual troubleshooting. Basically they said if the card can be recognized by another compatible unit, it is the E. It works fine in my iPaq.

I have an email into Palm tech support (12-48hr wait), so if you have an answer, please post it quick-- they are waiting :) !

more info:
-the E shows the card icon but a blank space instead of the name when I tap the home/menu icon;
-tapping "card info" shows lots of info on the card. Just can't get the app to come up.
-I did download and sync the SDIO patch. No help.

many thanks!

I have an E with a 64mb card - all works with no problems. There were some issues with SD cards on the T3 - I'm not sure if they are applicable to the E.

Take a look at http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/tungstene/sdioupdate.html - there is mention there of a download for SDIO. Shouldn't have any impact for SD cards, but it would be no hard to install in anyway. I have also heard that formatting the SD card on the Palm might help - as long as you have your data secure and it continues to work in your Compaq, this may be a reasonable solution.

My 64MB card is branded Lexar Media.

Thanks, I did DL the SDIO patch, knowing full well it had nothing to do with this problem. But-- give me a patch, I'll use it! :)

So palmone emailed to simply pop in the card and click on one of the choices. Of course if it doesn't recognize the card, it won't give me any choices. In which case, they say, call Palm.

847-262-PALM. Press 1 for tech support. Press 2 for customer support, etc. FINALLY 5 minutes into the toll call, they tell me their hours!

*sigh* I knew I'd have to call them at 430am Honolulu time so I could get this thing fixed and then get to work. Hence, 430am tech support calls.

palmone also wants me to fill out a form and tell them how satisfied I am with their help....

I had to call Palm One and tell them the new E didn't work very well with the card either, although it failed differently

and now the SD card won't work int he iPaq like it once did

so they "escalated it to corporate" and said they would send me a new SD card. It is nearly 2004 and no SD card replacement on the horizon. I guess I have to call them tomorrow. That's another $10 call. *sigh*

Hi,

It could be that your card had a "manufacturing error".

In some instances, inserting the Secure File PDA Backup card does not automatically launch the Backup Plus application. Instead, the "home" Application Launcher simply displays the card's contents as blank.

This is the result of a manufacturing error, and only happened on specific production "lot" numbers.

On the back of the product's DVD-style case, there is a LOT # ID sticker located between the two barcode numbers.

This production error only affected four lots, numbered 3032, 3037, 3046, and 3049. It did not affect lot 3021, or lots numbered 3050 and later.

More details here (http://www.gomdm.com/displayFAQ.asp?cat_id=4&product_id=Secure%20File%20PDA%20Backup&id=329)

Aloha Aliff,
Thanks for the info. I thought I'd posted a reply last week, as I was jazzed to find it was possibly a mfrg error (well, jazzed it wasn't ME). I just reread your post and checked out the mdm site link. thanks!

I'll check it out tomorrow when I get to my desktop PC & card reader. Maybe I can get it to work!

I'm not really happy about how Palm has been handling it. It has cost me about $15-20 in toll calls so far, had to contact them this past week to find out what happened to the promised replacement card.

The rep was pleasant but I suspect someone *forgot* to put in the replacement order, it may be another week or two before I get it.

mahalo,

The conclusion of the SD Saga...

Would you believe it took PalmOne until 2/6/2004 to get the new SD card to me? And they sent it via air express?

No wonder they are so expensive, apparently they take 2-1/2 months to make!

And I got the replacement after only 3 toll calls totaling about $21!

The card came in a relatively huge bubble-wrap envelope (8x12), in a tiny piece of plastic, no cardboard or other stiffener, but it looks undamaged and works fine.

Now to report all the expense on our taxes...

and NO, I would never buy a card from PalmOne again!

aloha!
