palm V and palm Vx sync calendar, address book, but not apps

situation: i have a Palm Vx, and my wife has my old palm V.

question: can we sync the address book and calendar without syncing all the apps. i'm afraid that if she syncs hers (2Mb) it will flood with all my apps (8Mb) and fail. (the todo and memos are less critical for us right now).

i tried different users, but then the calendar and address book don't stay up to date.

i tried profiles but that only kick starts a new user.

any hints?
