Resetting Contacts Categories

I've got a problem with the categories in Contacts. I can't seem to remove many of the category names. Is there any way to reset, delete, or reinitialize the Categories?

I've got the same problem. Anyone with any bright ideas?

I noticed that when you free-form type a new category or mis-spell an existing one, it 'creates' that new category, but not as a 'system' category... so I assume you have to change all contacts from the one you want to delete to the new one, then delete the old category.

I also noticed that if you don't make it a system category, they go away on their own. (3.0)
