I have just installed the newest version of Psiwin but when I tried to connect for the first time I got hte message: "Epoc mail server interface failed to initialise". I am able to sync my calendar/Agenda, but not my e-mails. I have already tried softresetting my MC218, but fruitles. Any suggestions outthere? Br. Jeppe

you will need to install the 'email sync update 1.1', available from Psion's download site.

Thanks a lot. That solved the problem. At least the main part of it:

1) I am still not able to back up my machine on my PC. My PC crashes everytime I try. Could it be due to the fact that I use a (Prolific) USB to Serial adapter to connect to my PDA? Any suggestions as to how I might tackle this problem?

2) When I sync the contacts the program somehow adds extra entries on the Epoc-machine, so that I now have all contacts three times. Is this something I have to live with or is there a fix?

so you can sync but not back up? Can you browse your Psion's drives via the My Psion icon? It seems odd that you can do some things but not others. Which version of Windows do you use? I ask because people have reported problems using USB-serial convertors with Windows 2000 (SP2 and above) and XP. Only the adapter sold by www.clove.co.uk is known to work reliably. Still, the fact that it works for some actions counts against this as being the source of your problem.

Did you install Psiwin 2.3.3 over the top of a previous version? If so, there may be some stray registry entires causing a problem. To get around this, you will need to uninstall Psiwin, run the Psiwin registry cleaner (you'll find it in my FAQ - URL in my sig), then reinstall Psiwin (and the email sync update).

Guess what? There's another update available from Psion that fixes this! Its called the Synchronization Upgrade.
