Hi all,

Anyone who owns a Psion LAN, WAN, Dacom or Netglobal card should ensure they keep the firmware up to date to ensure full compatibility with their Psion / Laptop and Telecom/Lan changes.

To do this, go to Psion website and proceed to downloads. This is now located in the MyPsion section so you may have to register your card, but this is easy even with second hand cards.

Go to the software downloads section from within MyPsion. Select your card (making sure you don't confuse the new Psion WAN/LAN Global series cards with the older Psion Dacom Global/NetGlobal series cards). Also make sure you check whether your card is a PCCard (PCMCIA) or CardBus. It will say on the card itself.

Change the category to Upgrade and leave the operating system blank. Click on search and download the latest firmware upgrade for your card.

Install the card into a laptop. Make sure that it recognises the card as either a working modem or network card (or both if you have a combined modem/lan card). This is very important as the upgrade will not work if the card is not installed correctly. If necessary download the latest drivers from Psion in the same way as the firmware upgrade. Once your card is in and recognised (check device manager to ensure it appears in either modem or networking sections or both if you have a combined card) double click on the firmware upgrade. If you are not logged into the laptop as administrator (NT, 2000 or XP users) it will warn you that you must have admin rights. Make sure you have !!

It will then install and launch an application which will locate your card. If it does not find your card check your device manager. If you have more than one network device or modem (either internal or second PCMCIA card) disable these using the button (no need to remove them) and then run the application again. All should work and a window will open confirming the current firmware version on the card and the version of the upgrade you can install.

If the two are the same then you should be ok although I would tend to reinstall the latest version again to be on the safe side. If the current version is greater than the ugrade offering then I would check you have the right upgrade first and secondly check with Psion as to why this could be (you may have card with a new beta version firmware installed) and ask if you should put the current version back in.

Once the upgrade is complete you can now remove the card (if using 95/98/ME/NT then shut down first. If using 2000/XP then use the card management tools in your tool tray), you can now uninstall the upgrade software and any Psion card management software if necessary.

After you have removed your card, re-enable any modem or lan devices you disabled previously to return your laptop to the previous operating state.

If you need any other info, please post it here.

Regards

Si
