Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : MSN Messenger, how to get it to work on my Ipaq 5550? woody32 11-25-2003, 07:31 AM I am trying to log into MSN messenger on my Ipaq 5550 through a wireless connection but I keep getting an error. How do I log in. AnswerDude 11-25-2003, 08:37 AM MS recently released Messenger update: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/resources/msnmessenger/default.mspx woody32 11-26-2003, 07:53 PM Danke! Bookie 11-26-2003, 08:51 PM Thanks so much for the link to the messenger update. I just thought it was ironic that messenger wouldn't work on an MS machine. I did the update and tried to run the program, but now I'm told that either the name isn't registered or the password is wrong. Funny, I am using the same passport login info that works on my desktop but the ppc doesn't like it. Any ideas? Bookie 11-26-2003, 08:55 PM Sorry... I did a soft reset and it looks like it remembers me now. Seems I might have seen that step somewhere but I'm not as smart as my ppc so what do I expect? Bookie 11-26-2003, 09:05 PM Well, it seems I spoke too soon. After a moment when it looked like it was going to work I am now getting "Exchange instant messaging authentication failure. Please enter the correct information" and 4 boxes to enter new stuff (like domain) into. Again, any ideas? Frisk151 01-03-2004, 08:46 PM I'm getting a 1607 installation runtime error when trying to install it.. Anyone else have this problem and a solution? Thanks David AnswerDude 01-04-2004, 12:03 AM Originally posted by Frisk151 I'm getting a 1607 installation runtime error when trying to install it.. Anyone else have this problem and a solution? Thanks David Try restart your desktop and run the installer again. Craigie 01-04-2004, 05:58 PM Same problem here and contacted Microsoft customer support. Please see their response below. It was of absolutely no help to me, but may help you guys. I'm still trying to resolve what seems to be a known issue: Thank you for contacting Microsoft Customer Service, my name is Alpana. Stuart, from your response I understand that after installing the update for MSN Messenger for Windows Mobile 2003, you are unable to log on to MSN Messenger. I realize your concern regarding this issue. Although I am not a Technical Support Professional, I have located some troubleshooting steps for this issue. You may try the following steps: Sign in to Passport using Internet Explorer: 1. Go to http://www.passport.com 2. Click/tap Sign In 3. Enter the same username and password (e.g. msn.com, hotmail.com or other Passport name) Stuart, if the same problem occurs when signing into the Passport web site, presumably the password is incorrect. Then I would request you to contact Passport support for further assistance on this issue. You can contact Passport support team at passport@css.one.microsoft.com If the same credentials are accepted by the Passport web site, but MSN Messenger won't accept them, this is a known issue with Messenger clients. NOTE: Sometime Messenger on one PC will sign in, but on a second PC it will fail. Please follow the given below steps: - Check date, time and Time Zone of Pocket PC - Check to see if you are connecting to MSN Messenger or to Exchange Messaging (this is an option in the client) If you are connecting to Exchange Messaging, I would request you to contact your network administrator. If the problem still continues, please contact MSN Mobile support team who is aware of this problem: http://mobile.msn.com/support/Contact.aspx Frisk151 01-05-2004, 02:22 PM Yeah, that doesn't do anything from me either. monkey 01-05-2004, 04:17 PM lol seems like the microsoft dude got the wrong end of the stick... he is talking about login into www.msn.com to view your emails and stuff.... not about msn messenger. Frisk151 01-05-2004, 08:47 PM Originally posted by AnswerDude Try restart your desktop and run the installer again. lol.. "Really.. I've been doing this for a long time.." :p That fixed it. :) Thanks! I also had to "hard restart" (I think that is the term?) the pda and now it works good. I appreciate the help! David Steven Barkess 12-19-2004, 07:41 AM Hi I used to use it but now it does not even start. I think i need to reinstall Messenger on my ipaq, but all i can find is the upgrade. Any suggestions on where I can get this, tried the normal places like download.com, hp, microsoft. Thanks Steven AnswerDude 12-19-2004, 01:21 PM Originally posted by Steven Barkess Hi I used to use it but now it does not even start. Thanks Steven In most ipaq model, the MSN messenger is built into ROM and is part of the OS. You will need to do a hard reset the ipaq back to factory setting then apply the update. You may also want to check the CD that comes with the ipaq, if messenger is not in ROM you should be able to find it there. PDA Street
