Just got a new laptop - Toshiba Tecra - with Windows XP Pro OS.
Was having problems with backup, so have just uninstalled PsiWin 2.2, cleaned the registry, installed PsiWin 2.3.3 + the two sychronisation upgrages from www.psion.com, like a good boy ;)
I'm pleased to see that backing up now runs a lot smoother than it did previously. The fact that it finishes at all without me sitting watching it like a hawk is a real bonus...
But Sychronisation just isn't happening. Getting through to the wizard for the first time, creating a new synch just brings up "Not Available". Clicking on this just takes me back to the wizard.
If after this I then exit sychronisation, double clicking the synch icon on desktop or in My Psion, or getting to it from the Tools menu or even through Outlook results in.... nothing.... I have to reboot the computer just for the opportunity of being told it's "Not Availabe" again.
I'm assuming it's a way that Outlook is configured...? I'm on the University network - is this where my problem lies, and any suggestions as to how I might overcome it?
Cheers - Giles

Giles,
I'm assuming that you're using Outlook on an Exchange server. You have to be logged on to the Exchange server for PsiWin to recognize that a copy of Outlook is available. The fact that the dialog doesn't work suggests that either you're not logged on to an Exchange server, you're atttempting to use Outlook on the Web (which won't work with PsiWin), or your Exchange admin has locked down Outlook so no third party program can access it. You'll have to do some further investigation to determine which is the correct answer.

Jim,
Many thanks. Found the problem was occurring when networked and when I had my laptop in stand alone mode (different domain entirely). Therefore uninstalled PsiWin and reinstalled it again switching everything off and registering the Psion ID under a different name.
The result.... it works! The only problem I have now is that To Dos I have selected as being synchronised aren't appearing, despite setting that particular To Do list and the particular individual item as being synchronisable.
It says "To-do will not be copied to other agendas as current list isn't synchronised". Does this mean you can't hide some items on a To Do list and synchronise others...?

Glad you found the basic connection problem. It can be a little confusing if you're working with a network and an Exchange server and making sure you're correctly logged into everything. Once that's sorted, PsiWin usually performs very well, syncing over a network to Outlook on an Exchnage server sometimes better than it does when using Outlook in the standalone mode.
The issue with the to-do's is the setting of each list. You'll have to forgive me but I'm traveling and (horrors!:( ) left my 5mx at home so I don't have the exact menu instructions but you can choose list by list if you want that list syncronized or not. If you want some items in a list syncronized and others not, you can mark those as private in the Details screen and then set PsiWin not syncronize Private entries.

Ah Jim, that's just grand. Yes, I found the extra menu item about synchronising.
Trouble is, it's only managed items on the first To Do list - other items on other lists marked for sychronisation haven't come across (nor has the heading for the To Do list(s), is this normal?)

ps Shame on you for leaving home without your 5mx ;)

No, this is not normal, assuming that all the to-do lists are marked to be synced with other agendas. I'd suggest setting up a new to-do list on your Psion with a dummy entry and see if this new list syncs across correctly. If so, deleting and recreating the to-do lists on your Psion should set things right. There's a bug in PsiWin that will cause it to only see the first to-do list on some 5mx agendas when you make your first sync. I've never determined why this happens but, since most of us have to-do lists that aren't all that large, deleting and reentering is usually the quickest way to solve the problem. If you do happen to have a large number of to-do's, let me know as there's another but more involved method we can try to get all the to-do's syncing.

Indeed. The worst part is I'm about a thousand miles from home and will be here for several months. I'm trying to convince my brother he should make the 400 mile round trip from his house to mine so he can ship up my 5mx but I haven't had much success with the idea yet.:)

...several months without a Psion??!! Perish the thought - I'd not even know when I was due to come home again...
Thanks once more.
I'm starting to get the hang of this
