I just purchased a used Dell Axim X5: I am a dummy at it so far.
I noticed it has internet explorer and MSN messenger on it.
How can I access the net through my sync cable?
Thank You

Greetings;
What you need to do is set up Activesync to allow you to access the net. Open activesync select tool>options and then goto the rules tab. At the bottom of that screen there is a section called pass through. "it says touse pass trough this this computer must be connected." Connection: <select> internet.
After you do that you should be able to surf the net when the X5 is in the cradle connected to the other sync cable or a wireless LAN.
MSN messenger should work fine.
Let me know

Greetings;
hans gruber how do you like surfing on you AX?
It's a tad slow loading pages and some sites are not able to load. I like it for the use of instant messaging if the computer is busy. All in all surfing not too bad.

The pages are very large so I have to shuffle the scroll bars quite a bit. And Yes; there are some places I can't get to.
Question:
Is it possable to receieve an attachment file from an email. If so; how do you download it and where would it be stored?
Thanks again (smile)

Greetings;
Yes you can load email attachments, on your activesync Tool>options click on email and then settings. At the bottom of that window check the box to "include file attachments" and then I suggest you limit the attachment size. On your unit open your inbox and select tools>options, then select the storage tab and if you want to place the attachments on your storage card check the box. I would suggest that action due to some of the sizes.
You can also download files on you unit but it takes a while. I have downloaded mpegs and they worked. I would also think if you downloaded a .cab program file for you unit you could place it in your program file and run it.

Greetings;
Open ActiveSync
On the activesync window click on "Tools" to get a pulldown menu
On the pulldown menu click on "Options"
The Options window will then open normally to the "Sync Options" tab. If not click on that tab.
Click on the inbox icon to highlight it.
Then click on the "Settings" button
The "Mail Synchronization settings" window will open.
On that page you need to check the "include File attachments" box.

sync options is not an option.... only the 3 I mensioned. I think I'm in trouble:
When I sync up I always choose the guest partnersahip option instead of the standard partnership option.... Is that why I don't see the tool/options/email?
When I try to sync with standard patership, I get:
This computer will me modified to sync with your desktop... and some thing about being dependent upon a server.
When I click the second option (within standard partnership) it asks me for a server name/user name/password/something else.
Would I be better off syncing with standard partnership and if so; what should I use as a server name.
Thanks Scott

Greetings;
Here is what you need to do to set up a partnership.
start Activesync and/or place your unit in the sync cradle. Your unit must be in the cradle.
Activesync will start the "setting up a partnership" window. In that window select "standard partnership" and click next
the "how to sync data" screen comes up. select "sync with this desltop computer" and click next.
The "select number of parnerships" screen comes up and select "Yes I want to sync with only this computer" and then click next.
The "Select sync settings" screen comes up. check the box beside each item you want to sync . Inbox, tasks, notes, ect you can set the specific settings by highlighting it and then clicking on settings, you can modify these once the parnership has been established. Click on next to continue the setup.
The "set up complete" screen will come up and then you need to click on finish.
Give this a try

OK, scott I got through all that now:
Back to the email attachments... I go to tools/options/sync options then there are desktop and server options.
There is not inbox to be checked in the desktop list, but when I click configure on server... Now I see the file attachments option.
Question:
Next I need to set up a server
What is an example of a server name?
let's say I'm on netzero and I'm joeblow@netzero.com (would http://www.hotmail.com) be a valid server?
What would the server be?
I think when I'm done it'll only let me accept attachments from this server+email address only which if OK
I hate to waste all your time, but your thr ONLY teacher I got.
Thanks a bunch

Greetings;
Hows It going, you are doing good.
First you post there isn't an inbox icon to check in tactivesync>tools>options on the desktop options. Did you set it up to sync with an inbox when you set up the partnership?
Are you using Outlook or another mail program? if so what version of Outlook or other?
Are the other aspects of you sync working? Is your address book, tasks, contacts syncing?
Why do you need to set up a server?
server name would be like" mail.hotmail.com"
Are you trying to access email from a hotmail like account?
There are ways to sync pop accounts thru outlook.
Active sync doesn't sync with outlook exppress. But there is a progrma to do so but I cound't get it to work.
Please let me know what you are doing.
I just set up the wifes' hotmail account to her Outlook so she could sync with her Axim.
